I hope it stays available over here. When I bought my last bottle, the wine shop proprietor said some of his suppliers in Spain are simply done with shipping any wines to the U.S. until Trump and his manic tariff tantrums are out of the picture

Albarino has become increasingly available in the US, I've noticed--it felt so amazing when I first tried in in Galicia (on Spain's Atlantic coast), and it instantly became my favorite white

No. Not disingenuous. This allegation assumes an established norm or widely recognized social expectation that such a heads-up will be provided where applicable. No such norm exists. You might wish there were, but that’s not the same thing.

The Flytrap and most of their writers are fully engaged in social media, which is another great revenue strategy. They often offer "Free fridays," free content for important events, etc. They also talk back.

"Historically free to read..."

I have run into links to paywalled content for as long as I've been on social media, which is over 15 years. I have never expected that I have a right to the content for free, nor have I felt that making such content known is unfair. We live in a commercial society.

As others have pointed out, until not too long ago, you had to either buy a publication or physically visit a library to read it. And if you look at the big picture, do you think that writers, photographers, editors, etc. deserve to be paid for what they do? Ads alone don’t pay the bills.

Go Girl, Give Us Nothing!: Why Hollywood Undervalues Original Storytelling Why do studios keep pumping out sequels, reboots, and remakes of the same old IP?

"Disguised as fan service, Hollywood’s IP addiction is a deliberate business strategy based on studio myopia, impatience, and profit maximization. Meanwhile, audiences are starving for fresh ideas and original characters." the-flytrap.ghost.io/go-girl-give...

I tuned out of Bluesky for a couple of days; how lovely to come back and find you two connecting over feminism, paywalls, and Texas wines! Where did you move to, Daniel? Thanks again for the wine you sent me a few years back!

Mason, Texas. You can spend the whole day with Parr Vineyards, the wine bar there and Robert Clay Vineyards. Dan from RCW gets high marks from James Suckling. If you go during their wine festival there are tons more, including Ex-NFL star's Alphonse Dotson of Dotson Cervantes wines.

Yep. That and the rich, β€œrespectable” evangelicals knew how to launder their reputation in the legacy media by cultivating the right connections and funding the right junkets.

And playing themselves in the legacy media. Michael Gerson? Elizabeth Dias? Sarah Pulliam-Bailey? All Wheaton grads

This is also why I don't buy the theories--ahem, conspiratorial--that this was an elaborate setup. I think it was a below average student with above average grade grubbing entitlement, and TPUSA seen its opportunity & took it.

the reason a catchall term like "evangelical" even exists is an attempt to recognize that, across many different Christian denominations, there is an anti-intellecual, vibes-based agreement on who Jesus is and how a student might best follow him - and - it's definitely not by sharpening their mind

07.12.2025 14:55 β€” πŸ‘ 220    πŸ” 20    πŸ’¬ 3    πŸ“Œ 3

I've heard a lot of shock about how they've never encountered students this intellectually dishonest, incurious, etc, but these students are by far the majority among evangelical Christians in "flyover" country where it is a norm for Christians to, literally, protect their soul from their intellect

having seen a lot of East Coast professors commenting on the Oklahoma essay thing, one thing really jumps out: by and large, East Coast professors, particularly at the more elite schools, are not going to encounter the type of evangelical Christian who wrote that essay

Bad (White) Moms Dominate Christmas Movies It's Christmas movie season. Why do so many feature bad moms?

ICYMI: @scarletteharris.bsky.social on harsh demands of mothering in Christmas movies.

"Holidays add weight...decorating, cooking, throwing parties for which various presents need to be procured, wrangling excitable children who just won’t go the fuck to sleep in anticipation of Santa Claus..."

A picture of a white wall (featuring a thermostat on the right) with two Flytrap Media posters on it (art by Rommy Torrico). One says β€œVirginity is Fake” and features a design reminiscent of the movie American Pie. The second features two women facing away from the viewer, one with light brown skin and another with stakes skin, in tank tops, parties, and thigh-high socks. On the woman on the left’s butt cheek is printed β€œStop violence”. On the other woman’s butt cheek is printed β€œagainst women”. The posters are in black frames.

Stuff like this is amusing because I can remember during Bush’s first term hearing over and over how tax curs were good because the government could never spend your money as well as you could soend it yourself.
