Because until 2016 we were an open community who welcomed people in to fill gaps created by an ageing population.

Moodle is the most used learning management system world wide (by user numbers), but some of the commercial alternatives are bigger in the US :)

I work for a company that provides support for Moodle - and many of us are there totally because of the love of education, the Moodle community and being able to contribute back - almost all of us have come through that HE/FE support route in one way or another, and it really is a great job :)
