Dyslexia can be - Enhanced problem solving skills. Difficulties around reading & writing. Big picture thinking. Difficulties around maths & reading maths language. Strong narrative reasoning. Difficulty interpreting body language. Good at identifying patterns. Difficulty processing a string of instructions. Talented in oral communication. Organisation difficulties. Creative.
Dyslexia isnβt just about difficulties with reading or writing, itβs also about unique strengths in creativity, communication, and problem-solving. Understanding both sides helps us create environments where dyslexic learners can truly thrive.Β #DyslexiaAwareness

Thanks @nurun.bsky.social π, the questions prompted a creative activity idea of using #GenAI. Plus crystallised the need to question the biases of these systems. Through that, education can be better. #LTHEChat

The answer is always the same: cut content, focus on concepts and make time to slow it down that way. Still too much stuff in the curriculum #LTHEchat

THANK YOU! STILL enjoyable a week late! Lovely to see a converation about fast and slow learning - I'd like to gather up a few more slow ideas. #LTHEchat

#LTHEchat A6 I LOVE this question! We need quick, fluid activities - and slow thoughtful ones: Slow writing together in class. Another is asking students to find a picture that represents the subject/essay for them - and to sit with it for 30mins making notes... and only then to start writing.

I think we should aspire to more than that! Not much good interrogative journalism out there any more! Look what they swallow from whatever the socalled Office for Students have to say about anything? #LTHEchat

A5 Maybe just a chat / conversation in class, in pairs, teams, and plenary (without AI tools). Then other activities may include its use. Maybe the use of non-written documents, maybe through painting, images, artefacts, Lego, etc. Students can express knowledge in different ways #LTHEChat

#LTHEchat A5 With GenAI a colleague creates avatars to be interviewed by her students. I have participated and it is a strangely amazing experience! Other than that - lots of opportunities for real conversations & contributions from students - without then telling them 'the right answer' ...

#LTHEchat A4 I work from home and mostly alone - I can use GenAI to have 'conversations' about topics I'm thinking about - and as said previously - my big testing approach is to ask: What would Foucault/Freire/hooks say about that?
07.10.2025 19:25 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0
#LTHEchat A3 A key strategy is to use the GenAI when you already know a lot about the subject - and about how active we need to be in our own learning - then - I find it good to challenge the answers - my favourite challenge ATM is: "What would Foucault say about that?"

That souns like an amazing project for a PhD!

#LTHEchat A2 Primarily learning has to take place by the learner and in the learner - precipitated by discussion - and that discussion might take place with an AI avatar - but 1st the student has to understand how to make learning happen for themselves & what cannot be outsourced to the machine.

#LTHEchat A1 Dialogic learning in my work with UG and on the PGCertLTHE means discursive and exploratory - building understanding togehether through activity, reflection, discussion - in class and out.

A6 I'm entertained conceptually by displays of visual notetaking, artistic notes, it's great for people to find these ways of displaying how their minds work, but alas, mine will always be the scrawl. It is most effective in marker pens on big paper, but I think that's bc it's most fun. #LTHEchat

I do a monthly reflection exercise (suggested by @ushmagudka.bsky.social) in which I take myself off for coffee and answer the same questions of myself. It really helps me to be aware of how much Iβm doing, appreciating my achievements and progress and what Iβve said no to #LTHEchat A6
