Talking about megastructures, I recently played Blackshard, which I can't believe it slipped under my radar for months, such an intriguing story and the artstyle for the characters are gorgeous!

I was gonna say Environmental Station Alpha but that came out in the same year than Odallus. I guess a more recent example would be Ascent DX, or basically anything made on picoCAD.

I have seen this types of reviews on horror for a while and yeah, you can tell they just disengaged from the story at some point, it's like they don't care about implications, just wanna be scared or have fun on a superficial level, I don't know how you could you like the genre with that mentality.

From what I can see (from someone who bought the game day one), people seem to be more hostile if the studio released completed games before, they have the mentality of "why bother buying the game if I can just wait until is finished" without realizing that version might never come without support.

Many Roguelites have been doing this a lot, first you finish a run and then it gives you the mechanical and narrative juice.
On other cases, my favorites are Lobotomy Corporation, which deals with time-travel shenanigans, and Umbraclaw where the first run is more an introduction to everything.

There are still people out there who thinks Dark Souls doesn't have story, it's like there's a mental switch between 'gameplay time' and 'story time' exclusive for cutscenes, and any grasp of story you would get during gameplay it's just 'lore'.

Thank god there are browser extensions that automatically disable them, because the worst thing is that this awful AI dub is treated like any other 'official' dubs so it takes priority, it sucks.

Absolutely! played it and completed it when it came out, is a really cool iteration of deckbuilders and technically on the same universe of Wolfstride, really looking forward to what they do next.

Yeah absolutely, there are cases where it's more justifiable. I meant more the cases where the person would say they just wanted to be done with the game and I ask myself, is that a game problem or a 'you' problem? and most times is the later, sometimes the solution is just to take a break.

It's always weird when someone says that a game 'last longer than it should' as objectively bad design because most times is just weirdly placed expectations over it or they had limited time available (or grew tired of it), there will always be someone else wishing the game to be longer honestly.

I still think about Wolfstride, part life-sim/visual novel based on meeting characters and getting money to buy things and upgrades, part turn-based tactical rpg on mechas, literally the coolest game ever, both visually and narrative.

It's a wild explanation, if it really was a seasonal thing it would happen every year, but no it's happening all across every type of videos specifically now, more than theories explaining what is happening it felt more like theories discrediting creators concerns, too much on the side of youtube.

This happened so many times to me specifically on indie souls-likes, Deathbound, Enotria, Estencel, their worlds are really cool but the gameplay is full of bugs and suffering lol

It doesn't happen too late into the game, but the contrast of fighting a sniper on a cemetery to THIS music changes a lot the atmosphere of the fight, really cool choice for a really cool game.

Yeah, Yurivania 3 too, I think they were submitted before a wave of bans took them down.

Technically, and funnily enough, the only tag that connects them all (apart from platformer) is 'parkour'.

Thanks to a recent bundle I finally got to play it (it has a pretty bad regional price on steam), I loved it from beginning to end! After my positive review I did got some people asking me if I was serious, not in bad faith but because how many negative videos come up when you search for it, sad.

Nowadays, I think most of the globally known indie games from Japan are published by Playism, and others like Bloodstained and Ratatan for example. Apart from that, there's A LOT of indie games that stay untranslated, not only visual novels and RPGmaker, but a huge variety of genres.

The announcement says it, those videos where translated by the devs and not by the localizers, so it is their fault.

Technically it was a 'mobile game first consoles later' because it was first published by Crunchyroll. Also I really recommend the other games by Shueisha, Arcana of Paradise is really good! (even with the mixed reviews).

I honestly can't blame anyone who gets angry at this (except the review bombing, that's unnecessary), like it's early access, how experimental the updates have to be to hold them only on the beta branch? for 16 months!!???

I really don't understand why Somerville was so criticized, I guess bad performance at launch? but also I think people just were looking for Inside 2 (which is not). Anyway what a cool game, so cinematic with nice puzzles and a really good alien-invasion story.

You have the ones with more budget selling pretty well, like Total War franchise, Company of Heroes and Crusader Kings or any of the Warhammer games, and even the indie scene is pretty successful, like look at Hooded Horse, Northgard, They are Billions, I think the genre is thriving more than ever.

If I can give my opinion, there's hasn't been a decline on the genre? even that time period you mention had a lot of RTS that where totally eclipsed by the big and widely-known names (like AoE2, Starcraft, C&C, etc.), while today there's more competition and even indies can break ground.

Oh, this is interesting! I did read somewhere of people not liking Stanley Parable because of achievements making them not play for years, but also people praising games like Ender Lilies/Magnolia or the Resident Evil for how fun it is to hunt them, encouraging to see everything and doing 100%.

This are three question on the same topic, is it hard to implement achievements? does having them or not affect sales? and which game was the first one to implement them (or the one that made it popular)?

It really is! it looks and plays like some PSP era's rpgs with a lot of depth on branching decisions and mechanics, some story paths are widely different from each other. Sadly it didn't sell well, which is probably why didn't received updates, but still worth checking out.
