I follow the logic in restricting them pre-publication. However as a lover of books and a Historian-in-training I cannot agree that any such understanding is a good thing. It is also probably doomed. When authors leave old laptops to archives all there edits can be recovered from hard drives.

Actually thinking about it I like the Idea. I do want it to be non-fiction though. I'm thinking start with Bede (all the best things do) and continue the history through to 1994 (you know why that date)

Shakespeare didn't write anything. It was all written by someone else with the same name.

I was going to say didn't Vikram Seth do a Novel in Verse recently (The Golden Gate) I know realise that was actually 1986 and feel very old.

It was all to raise money for an excellent cause if that makes you feel any better.

Oh No! I was once at an event that had a stall which was selling nothing but proofs & review copies it was a delight beyond compare.

It's not about solidarity, it's about business. Most of them would lose staff & subscribers so fast they'd be out of business by Wednesday week. FT's business model is to charge a lot of money to people who NEED to know it's right before doing deals for extremely large sums of money.

Why wouldn't you memorise numbers? They are fun. I can recall car number plates from 50 years ago. I didn't need to know then as I was 7. And I certainly don't need to know now.

Rob mate, You know it's simply easier for a tory or a lab or a green voter to hold their nose and vote Lib Dem to beat Refuse. than it is for them to vote for each other.

Any party that switches leader 4 years out from an election, thus allowing time for the replacement to get disliked as well, really does want to lose the election.

02.10.2025 13:30 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

Mmm, Dunno. Lib Dems always used to get the Protest vote or the FU all vote. I suspect a lot of that has gone to mr Porridge.

Most voters do not know or care about most parties policies. They vote for who they "like"

Not all will be. Some will just be wanting to give the metaphorical finger to "normal politicians" I canvassed a chap once and asking him who he was voting for he replied BNP. I told him they were not running in that election. He said he'd vote for Galloway's lot them. Never eliminate the FU Vote.

Once whilst Agenting I was at a husting where a Candidate (not mine) called a voter stupid for asking him a question he didn't like. Looks of horror and gasps of astonishment across the entire political spectrum. It's a no no.

29.09.2025 12:30 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

It's very bad politics to insult the voter. Insulting another party or it's leaders, policies etc is fine. Voters expect politicians to do that.

Honestly I think America is too broken to be unified by a President. No Matter how good. And Yes I too wanted a Harris Win.

No. There was a good time when that was decided. And there will be a Good time before voting starts. Now would be a bad time as the same statement would mention the crook and his replacement and risk association by proxy. It's also arguable if NY city voters give a toss what Jeffries says.

No country has an ambassador to the UK. Any ambassador serving in the UK is an Ambassador to the Court of St James.

Oh I get that. But he will still have friends who might vote Dem in the future or make a donation, If they are not pissed off. There is nothing to be gained by kicking him when he's down, There might be a cost, It would therefore be stupid to do it.

It's basic "You don't speak ill of the dead" courtesy. Adams is politically dead for the foreseeable future, No point being nasty about him.

Up to you. It's your Journey. I like things simple. All I'm doing is sitting on my sofa looking out over the Thames to the dome watching the boats go by. I don't have to be anywhere until a Lecture at University of Greenwich on Tuesday. #WorldHeritageSite.

A perspective of time - Boris Johnson as Prime Minister is closer to today than the next General Election will be.

The media needs to shut up about if there was an election today. There will not be an election today, tomorrow, this week, this year or for at least another 3+ years.

It's not as the electoral commission has no power to enforce anything. The police and the CPS are required if the law is broken and they hate acting (in case they look political) so almost never do.
