Flawed economic models mean climate crisis could crash global economy, experts warn States and financial bodies using modelling that ignores shocks from extreme weather and climate tipping points

William Nordhaus received the Nobel Memorial Prize for these flawed economic models, and Bjorn Lomborg built a highly lucrative career on them.
They told rich and powerful people what they wanted to hear.
While helping to consign us all to catastrophe.

This is essential reading for all policy makers - and it’s exactly what many of us have been warning about for years. Our current economic model is simply incompatible with a safe & secure future. We can’t bail out the Earth like we did the banks

Keir Starmer attacks the racism of Reform and Matt Goodwin but then adds that "Britain has also been let down by a mindset on the left of politics that is too slow to defend core British values"

The Epstein files show it's a thoroughly rotten system that treats people as resources to be owned and used.
This is the ruling class of capitalism as it's always been. It's not just the moral failings of a few individuals who just need replacing with good guys. The system creates these people.

Also evidence that essentially eliminating irregular immigration - as Australia has - doesn't, by itself, stop the radical right.

Worth remembering when looking at the horrific scenes in the US right now that both Reform and the Tories have pledged to bring in ICE-style organisations to the UK if they win power

Three errors here. First, in confusing some kind of SEND classification (20%) with EHCPs (5.5%).

Secondly in assuming it gives automatic right to DLA. Though there is a strong ECHP/DLA overlap.

Third in assuming that those moving to DLA to PIP never work (it's not an out of work benefit).

baffling why 60% of pensioners are supporting Con/Ref who will slash public spending that mainly goes to pensioners

Reading through the FT at the moment is a strange experience: revolution, war, disaster, brutal autocratic oppression, mad dictator shit....and then "markets continue to thrive"; "record profits".

A good thing about football is it is an outlet for β€œI know that was shameful, but I don’t care because he is in my tribe” feelings that might otherwise have to go elsewhere.

West Midlands Police capitulated to Islamists and then collaborated with them to cover it up.
They knew extremists were planning to attack Jews for going to a football match, and their response was to blame and remove Jewish people instead. They presented an inversion of reality and misled a Parliamentary Committee.
We have had enough of this in Britain.
The Chief Constable's position is untenable.
The British Police serve the British public, not local sectarian interests.

What was left of the credibility of West Midlands Police has been destroyed today.
We learned earlier that their initial reason for banning Israelis from Villa Park was the danger *to* away fans *from* armed" locals.

I hadn’t seen the crank in chief herself joined in but reiterate: these clowns are accusing the police of collaborating with radical Islamists to racistly exclude fascist football hooligans who have been sanctioned many times. This bullshit - all over the press - is straight up Tommy Robinson stuff.

And the reasons for that are not hard to find - Starmer’s unpopularity among left-liberals is the logical, arguably even intended consequence of 18 months of comms and policy which alienates and angers left-liberals while winning over no one on right. This is the cake his team have baked themselves.

Agree with all of this, other than "the right will go 'pro-natalist" - I think what will happen is that much of the right will shift from 'blaming our ills on immigration' to 'blaming our ills on ethnic diversity', which is already happening to an extent.

British politics is a mess. Food, energy, housing are all too expensive. Major parties are all flogging the dead horse of trickle down. So I’m joining the Green Party. Britain needs an economy that works for workers, for small businesses, and future generations. @greenparty.org.uk

Great, so we just accept Trump's framing then, the guy unleashing masked militia onto the streets attacking migrants.

Starmer isn't "returning control". Every single one of his anti-asylum policies increases the number of people forced to use irregular routes, along with emboldening the far right.

Labour are attacking Greens. Fine. I have yet to see any party that has entirely affordable aspirations.

But at least the Greens HAVE aspirations.

Labour have seemingly decided the status quo cannot be touched, even when it doesn't work for 90% of people, or the viability of life on the planet.

I see the PM is being very rattled and very untruthful about the Greens again in the papers.

He couldn’t say this stuff in Parliament because he would be lying to the House - both about what our popular, evidence-based policies are, and about him believing this guff.

The line here that made my ears prick up (and should really spook Labour) is the third one (that we need β€œfair and managed” migration).
