Home Office lets rogue firms regain licences to sponsor migrant visas Employers targeted in a government ‘crackdown’ on abuse of the skilled work system are routinely being granted fresh approvals, Times analysis reveals

More than 1 in 10 employers stripped of their licence had it reinstated to continue hiring - and exploiting - migrants. Shameful. Is the Home Office operating with its eyes closed?

These employers must be fined, and that money must be used to compensate victims.

A massive thank you to @neilduncanjordan.bsky.social and @unison.org.uk for collaborating with us to host an event for MPs to hear directly from migrant workers set to be affected by the settlement proposals.

As @stevewitherdenmp.bsky.social said: MPs are waking up to the magnitude of these plans!

MPs are debating the earned settlement proposals - turnout is incredible.

"Everyone one of us here will have a case where if this goes through, it will be absolutely tragic... If this goes ahead, every one of us will report social care collapsing in our constituencies" @johnmcdonnellmp.bsky.social

Unknown how many Poole NHS workers could be impacted by reforms, says Government The Government has admitted it does not know how many NHS workers in Poole could be affected by its proposed immigration reforms, after responding…

The Dept for Health and Social Care has no idea how the plans to restrict settlement for migrants already in the UK would affect the NHS or care sector. This should be ringing alarm bells for every MP who cares about their constituents' access to healthcare.

Write to your MP | Work Rights Centre Write to your MP to tell them what it's like to be a migrant or low-paid worker in the UK today

The government has announced the biggest restrictions to settlement rights in decades.

Ministers plan to apply them retroactively, breaking the promises made to people when they uprooted their lives to move here. How can this be fair?

Write to your MP now.

Oppose ILR changes | Work Rights Centre

Getting ILR means the difference between being able to change jobs freely, and being tied to one employer with ultimate control over your life.

Doubling the wait for ILR means doubling the time in precarity. Here's how to speak out against the plans⬇️

After the impact assessment on Tuesday, this is the second independent publication to raise serious question over the government's settlement changes. They make no fiscal sense. They're just likely to increase poverty, and subject migrants to high-risk employer-sponsored visas for longer.

🚨New research by the Migration Advisory Committee shows migrants who came to the UK on the Skilled Worker visa route in 2022/23 likely to make a +47bn fiscal contribution over their lifetime. Even the lowest earners excluded from the route after the July changes make a positive contribution

Modern Slavery: NRM cases awaiting a conclusive grounds decision, November 2025

Shorter waits are an improvement - but just part of the picture. We also want to see that victims are better identified and supported, including with access to VTS, which is v rarely awarded.

📉 the average (median) age of cases awaiting a conclusive grounds decision was 101 days, a decrease of 28% (40 days) when compared to the total of 141 days on 30 September 2025.

New NRM stats today show significant decrease in the time it's taking for cases to receive Conclusive Grounds decisions.

📉 As of the 30 Nov 2025 there were 6,749 cases awaiting a CG decision; a 26% decrease compared to 30 September 2025 (9,107) and a 77% decrease from the peak of 29,275 in 2022.

It is particularly concerning that the government published these figures more than four months after the rules were changed, limiting the public’s ability to scrutinise the impact of these proposals before they were enacted.

These changes deal the UK a bad hand with a lot to lose and little to gain.

Meanwhile, exploited migrant care workers are yet to receive any remedy for the harm they suffered at the hands of Home Office approved sponsors. 4/X

09.12.2025 16:32 — 👍 2    🔁 1    💬 1    📌 0

The changes are expected to lower net migration numbers by between 21,000 and 34,000 in 2025/56, and between 40,000 and 67,000 in 2029/2030.

These figures portray a significant loss to the UK’s workforce, with domestic workers somehow expected to fill in the gaps asap. 3/X

Businesses are projected to take a financial hit in the form of higher wages, higher up-front investment costs or, in some cases, lower outputs. Firms are recommended to adjust by: “freezing recruitment”, “changing production levels”, or “changing location of production or outsourcing”. 2/X

🚨Changes to immigration could wipe £10bn from the Treasury, reveals the government's impact assessment.

The losses are almost certain: older & disabled people will find it harder to get care, and between -£10.8bn and -£2.2bn will be lost in taxes; while the benefits are uncertain & intangible. 1/X

Will the Fair Work Agency put immigration enforcement before workers’ rights? | Work Rights Centre

In her budget, the Chancellor set out plans to establish a 'hidden economy team' in the Fair Work Agency.

Could this signify a shift away from protecting the most vulnerable workers, and towards tougher immigration enforcement on behalf of the Home Office?
