I just spoke with Andry HernΓ‘ndez Romero and offered our support and assistance.

He was grateful to all who have advocated on his behalf and those who shared his story. He spoke of the horrific conditions in CECOT and the real trauma and violence he experienced. I’ll have more in the days ahead.

When ICE agents questioned a group of 11- to 14-year-olds who’d just finished batting practice, their coach, Youman Wilder, stepped in. β€œI’m willing to die to make sure these kids can get home,” he recounted afterward.

Sanctuary cities are not sanctuaries for criminals.
This is not about crime.
ICE is already "flooding" sanctuary cities.
New announcements are done to create fear, for PR,Β  and to distract or console people in non-sanctuary cities and red states where raids are also happening.

Why This Guatemalan Family Is Hiding From ICE This Summer in St. Louis, Missouri They say returning to Guatemala isn’t an option β€” even if they are forced to.

"The Trump administration has increased travel bans, detention space and daily arrest goals. Elected officials have been wrestled to the floor and handcuffed... Meanwhile, millions of noncitizens remain in the shadows, wanting to be left alone to earn a better living for their families."

ICE declares millions of undocumented immigrants ineligible for bond hearings A memo from ICE’s acting director instructs officers to hold immigrants who entered the country illegally β€œfor the duration of their removal proceedings,” which can take months or years.

In response DWN, said: β€œMillions of undocumented immigrants in the US could be denied due process rights & can be detained indefinitely. This is tragic, infuriating, & yet another example of how Trump is using immigration detention as a testing ground for authoritarianism."

As ICE terrorizes communities, remember that some of Trump's biggest supporters are private prison companies that will make bank off his budget bill.

And Stephen Miller recently disclosed over $100K of stock in Palantir, the shady data firm ICE uses to target immigrants.

Cashing in on cruelty.

Even if you assume the legitimacy of ICE operations, the idea that a fucking truck-mounted machine gun is necessary to carry them out is insane.

This is about intimidation. This is them letting us know that the streets of the United States have been militarized.

11/ Ordinary people are resisting. "Know Your Rights" trainings, rapid response networks – these hyperlocal efforts protect individuals and build resilience. They form a "spider web of many threads of resistance."

06.07.2025 22:26 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

10/ Drawing on Mariame Kaba, Paik stresses "a million experiments" in collective care. History guides us, but we adapt. Sanctuary must be capacious, driven by abolitionist values: defend everyone, dismantle root causes of violence, build a world where sanctuary isn't needed.

06.07.2025 22:26 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

9/ What now? Paik advocates "sanctuary for all." This means no "deserving" vs. "undeserving" migrants. Reject divisions, like the "progressive-except-for-Palestine (PEP)" framing.

06.07.2025 22:26 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

8/ This isn't just about historically excluded groups. Paik warns these "massive power grabs" are affecting documented non-citizens and even US-born citizens. "Once the state deploys its violence against one targeted group, it uses the same justifications... to target others."

06.07.2025 22:26 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

7/ Meanwhile, state violence is escalating. ICE now cages over 42,000 migrants, sending some even to GuantΓ‘namo Bay – an extra-territorial site. We're also seeing unprecedented extraordinary renditions to countries like El Salvador, bypassing all due process.
