There are a large number of people here who have no faith in the government's ability to protect them. Conservatives have cultivated this since Reagan. So lots of folks believe their guns are what keeps them safe and keeps the government from turning on them. You cannot convince them otherwise.

Yup. I've seen multiple discussions of people getting benefits who still don't want the 'wrong' people receive them. They will vote to eliminate a benefit if they think a group they dislike is getting it. Bottom line, you can't effectively campaign on policy. It's all vibes.

Ah, yes. A third party. Perhaps Jill Stein could run it. After all, she’s done so much for US politics.
