As I wrote yesterday, It's when you assemble the whole picture that you have to raise the question if the intention is to destroy this country and whether this country is in fact being destroyed. Here's some more destruction.

This is why libraries are under attack right now. They put everyone and all ideas in one place on a level playing field. They are community hubs for all. They must be destroyed because the idea of sharing public space with those you disagree with or who are different from you is anathema to MAGA.

NIH scientists have a cancer breakthrough. Layoffs are delaying it. A big step forward in cancer therapy has been slowed by layoffs and new restrictions at the National Institutes of Health, where it was developed.

I would be making a big deal out of this if I were an elected Democrat

In its own way, this is as damaging as what is happening at NIH, CDC, USAID, elsewhere. Even tariffs.

It's the Cultural Revolution. Year Zero.

And GOP grins and claps.

One of the things that's really hobbling older liberal leadership, Bernie included, is this reflex they have to show broad mindedness by using a kind of corporate version of Rogerian argument, where you always begin by acknowledging common ground or points of agreement you share with your opponent

Screenshot of a reddit post on r/fednews that reads:

DOGE is at the Institue of Museum and Library Services right now, AM 03/20, to shut down the agency

The Institute of Museum and Library Services is being raided by DOGE and the new Acting Director (also somehow DepSec of Labor) Keith Sonderling with the express intent to shut it down. Sonderling was sworn-in in the lobby of the office building (955 L'Enfant Plaza) and they are proceeding with quickly and quietly dismantling the agency. There is no major reporting on the death of IMLS.

There are Deparment of Homeland Security personnel present - to bully a bunch of civil servants who administer grants to museums and libraries.

IMLS offices are on the 4th floor of 955 L'Enfant.

There is no media present to document this efficiency saving of .004% of the federal budget. Every library system in the country receives these grants. Museums in every state depend on them. Every penny disbursed is American tax dollars back in American communities.

This is one of the 7 federal agencies offered up as a needless sacrificial lamb in the catastrophic resolution and last week's EO.

Confounding: The air of normalcy with which so much of US media reports on the dismantling of US democracy and Western alliances.

This is going to kill many public libraries, especially in rural areas. If you use a public library, you will be impacted. #imls is a dust mote in the federal budget. It also provides things like internet at your local library so people can apply for jobs and kids can do homework.

Exclusive | Draft of Trump Executive Order Aims to Eliminate Education Department Secretary Linda McMahon would be directed to β€œtake all necessary steps to facilitate the closure” based on β€œthe maximum extent appropriate and permitted by law.”

Just restating the simple point: President lacks the constitutional authority to close a department created by Congress. Full stop. Both the creation and on-going funding of these Depts are LAWS not suggestions. This is criminal conduct. www.wsj.com/politics/pol... via @WSJ

Media folks still amplifying the misinformation here, by calling gross cancelled spending β€œsavings”.

It’s not *savings* unless a credible source has done an analysis that shows the *same quality and quantity* of services are still being delivered at lower (social) costs. And that hasn’t been done.

Librarians reading 30,000 books in Livingston Parish to check for explicit material Livingston Parish libraries have found a solution for the community's concerns about the possibility of sexually explicit material in children's books: read every single book on the shelf.

Shelves for young adult books in Livingston Parish, Louisiana, are empty.

That's because the librarians have to read 30,000 books to check for "explicit content."

(No such thing exists.)

(This is a TREMENDOUS waste of taxpayer dollars).
