Ah right, got it! We used to use tape drives a long while ago and I agree it's a good cheap alternative if you don't need easy data access from archive, but you have large amounts of data. I see the MagStor drive is well reviewed, but the drive cost is a little steep at 6k!

Agreed, Synology had been good for us (4 servers with full extension boxes for 15 years), and while the nag to use their own HDDs is annoying, we just ignore it and use the cheapest enterprise level disks. Supports multiple fs schemes, and software updates regularly.

Arenty stickers a mite juvenile for students? Why not reward them with something that they'll actually care about like a beer or a margarita?

β€œWhat's remarkable about this result is that the classes in themselves weren't centred on achieving these kinds of outcomes. Instead, the specific aim of the lessons was to develop children's confidence in asking questions, constructing arguments, and having reasoned discussions with one another.”

1. Today the NIH director issued a new directive slashing overhead rates to 15%.

I want to provide some context on what that means and why it matters.

I'm so glad that we are rebuilding #AcademicTwitter and #ScienceTwitter!

They were extremely important communities, and their decline was a genuine loss.

I am grateful and hopeful that Bluesky is giving us the chance to rebuild these remarkable human networks.

Academics wanting to 'verify' their Bluesky profile as genuine might give an ORCID identifier in their profile and link back to their Bluesky profile from ORCID.
