There are some Labour figures whose minds just curdled at the success of the SNP and they just started lashing out in pain. Tom is one of them.

It is great, celeb or regular. As a study in psychology as much as for entertainment.

It really worries me at a personal as well as moral level. I have family who are ethnically Indian and many friends from Afghanistan who now live here because we were there, all of whom live in England. The conflation of brown skin and "illegal immigrant" and the threat of violence is a concern.

Reminiscent of the end of the Roman Republic. When defeat = indictment, people use whatever means necessary to stay in power (see also: Netanyahu)

I know this is obvious. And I know we all know this.
But if the President can raise taxes because an advert annoyed him, without even consulting Congress, then the US constitution is simply not functioning as intended.

Coming from very different places but I always thought Andy Wightman and Craig Murray have similar personalities (having seen both of them up close) - the big ego of "the entire establishment is out to get me" thinking in particular.

The iron law of oligarchy in action. I am not a member of your (or any) party but I really feel for Labour members who are frustrated at a strategy that is being set by someone who never stood for election and is never accountable to the membership.

It’s a little known clause of the Labour party rulebook (Ch.5,sect.xii). β€œWhen the party is in office, no clear statement can be made until half a dozen people on Bluesky have embarrassed themselves by claiming that the silence is actually part of a grand strategyβ€œ.

The foreign secretary said that the suspension wasnt an arms embargo. Why say that if none of those licences were for arms?

"According to the Department of Business and Trade, 161 of the extant licences relate to military products." - the exact details are classified however.

Gaza war: Is the UK selling arms to Israel? The UK suspended dozens of arms licences to Israel last year, but many say the measures do not go far enough.

The average age of U.S. homebuyers is now 56, up from 49 last year.

In 1981, the year trickledown economics began, it was 31.

To be fair to what Donald is saying, there was a significant period of time after 2007 when Labour, angry at being out of power, did a DUP style "No no no" to everything. Its why the Conservatives had space to get things into the budget 7-11 because they were willing to negotiate.

No, he is an American who is a Catholic. Not all Christians in America are "American Christians", by which I mean a particular slice of the faithful (of multiple denoms, but mostly evangelical) for whom Christianity means fuck the poor, God blesses the rich, yes to death penalty, no to mercy etc

American Christianity is a completely new religion. We just haven't had the official schism yet.
