Way past its prime: how did Amazon get so rubbish?
Sick of scrolling through junk results, AI-generated ads and links to lookalike products? The author and activist behind the term ‘enshittification’ explains what’s gone wrong with the internet – and ...
Cory again ... with this detailed explanation of why Amazon is a pile of poop with a business model that shafts its customers and suppliers (as well as governments by not paying its fair share of tax).
I'm proud to have boycotted Bezos’s creation for many years.

Remember when this was a fringe idea? When it was considered contrarian to say AI was a bubble? Yet people aren’t quite there. The markets have yet to fully accept it. But how long can they ignore this? It’s not going away. We’ve got Bezos, Altman, Zuckerberg, Nadella said there’d be overbuild.

The dawn of the post-literate society
And the end of civilisation
Submerged beneath a sea of screens, it seems humans are doomed
"Just as the advent of print dealt the final death blow to the decaying world of feudalism, so the screen is destroying the world of liberal democracy."

And sadly it will make no difference to most of the people who vote for Reform.
A very long time ago I worked with a guy in Swansea who later went on to become a big noise in UKIP in Wales: it was reassuring to remember that years before I'd worked out he was a total plonker.

Paris is the only place I've ever had waiters be genuinely rude to me but not for in recent years. The French service culture still leaves a lot to be desired but is better than it used to be.

I've lived in Lyon for over 20 years and still mangle the language lots but mostly my friends, neighbours and even strangers tolerate it, they correct me but seldom laugh.

Beautiful. I've walked some of those corridors and LOVE the fact that they had a special studio just for brass bands!

The third richest man owns Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp.
The fourth richest man owns The Washington Post.

I can think of one ignorant clown who would probably hate these as much as he hates conventional wind turbines.

Amazing, but not sure how practical they'd be to eat, wouldn't those hundreds and thousands fire off in all direction on the first bite?
I miss lamingtons, discovered and used to scarf them down big time when in WA for the America's Cup. For some reason no one seems to sell them here in France.

A lovely man, I used to occasionally read the news during his afternoon programme on LBC back in the '80s. He would sometimes take a "power nap" during the headlines and it was the newsreader's job to nudge him awake during the ad break after the weather so he could continue the show.

‘Kafkaesque’: teacher in Birmingham fights to clear his name after identity fraud
Michael Bene is repaying £763 ‘advance’ despite evidence he did not attend face-to-face verification interview
DWP says: “We have robust processes to detect fraudulent claims using a hijacked identity and support for anyone who thinks that they may have been a victim of identity fraud."
Except this story shows that they don't and they don't.

Spinal Tap is back. Director Rob Reiner says they're still dialed up to 11
In 1984, the mockumentary This Is Spinal Tap satirized heavy metal bands. Now the characters are back for a sequel, Spinal Tap II. Reiner says "they have grown neither emotionally or musically."
"...it used to be there was "show" and "business." They were equal - the size of the word "show" and "business." Now, you can barely see the word "show," and it's all "business." And the only things that they look at [are] how many followers, how many likes, what the algorithms are."
