a video of the young man's arrest shows him backing up, following commands, while having a weapon drawn on him. He's then surrounded, thrown to the ground, jumped on, and detained. shared with permission.

People are spontaneously posting up near any laborers or street vendors they spot. Just saw a rapid responder guarding a man working on a building exterior. Many things are terrible today but lord, this stuff matters.

I won't use any organizing energy opposing the criminalization of feds, but I really think people should be focusing on restorative initiatives for victims / communities first. We already saw the results of Jan 6 prosecutions---they're already back on the streets.

A Dyke Theology Because apparently I have one

They say "bad theology kills." For National Coming Out Day, I wanted to offer some theology that doesn't. (Grateful to Grace, Riot, and the Sisterly retreat for the prompting to write this.)

This comes as a response to Israel intercepting the Global Sumud Flotilla convoy.

Take heart. The fight is not over. ONE Flotilla vessel ALMOST reached the shores of Gaza, but it’s more profound than that: it’s the closest any aid vessel has got in *18 YEARS*!!!

Fighting for Our Stolen Neighbors: ICE, Tear Gas and a Guitar Blown Open "Being out here to demand what is right is the only way to stay human," says Jessica Darrow.

As ICE continues to terrorize Chicagoland, protesters gathered this morning outside the Broadview detention centerβ€”throwing stuffed animals at DHS agents, playing music through tear gas assaults, and putting their bodies on the line to stop ICE vehicles. My latest.

Jimmy Kimmel’s Suspension Is Shocking, But the Worst Could Be Yet to Come The ouster of comedian Jimmy Kimmel signals a broader crackdown on media. Let’s double down, not back off in response.

Media crackdowns are a core part of the fascist playbook. As more repression looms, @neginowl.bsky.social & I write,
those of us in media need to ground ourselves in our own power, seeking creative ways to raise our voices and rooting ourselves in our solidarities.

If we are going to have any chance of preserving healthcare for trans people, reproductive care or frankly any kinds of care the regime wants to eliminate providers & institutions are going to have to band together to vigorously fight civil subpoenas & vague threats of criminalization at every turn

They watched ICE detain their dad. Now D.C. neighbors escort them to school. Immigrant neighborhoods across the District have organized β€œwalking school buses” to shuttle kids to classes during President Donald Trump’s federalization of D.C. police.

Wapo article does a good job covering two realities: How deeply watching a parentsβ€˜ immigration arrest affects kids, and how DC residents are organizing β€œwalking buses” and neighborhood lookouts to help kids with immigrant parents get safely to school. wapo.st/3VNYZ08

Until the trans woman murdered down the block, the kid dead of gender dysphoria, the ICE detainee dead in custody, the auntie dead for lack of healthcare, and EVERY PERSON DEAD IN GAZA are all universally grieved, I am unlikely to shed a tear for Charlie Kirk. All are victims of political violence.

The longtime fear-mongering about crime in major cities is, of course, copaganda and is being used as a pretext for occupation. It has more to do with criminalizing and controlling specific populations i.e. Black, brown, unhoused, and poor people, and not others.

enormous development in the Cop City RICO case today: the Judge indicated he would be dismissing *at least* the RICO and Arson counts of the indictment, which would eliminate 56 out of 61 people from the indictment.

Official answer tomorrow, and it will certainly be appealed.

Mr. Mamdani must find common ground with the police to avoid the tensions that plagued Mr. de Blasio, said Mitchell Moss, a professor of urban policy at New York University.

Mr. de Blasio tried to bring changes to the department, but he angered the rank and file. He defended a staffer who had ridiculed the police on social media and gave a speech describing how he had warned his biracial son that he could have problems with the police. The tension culminated in a painfully public protest in 2015 by officers who turned their backs on Mr. de Blasio at a police funeral.

β€œYou can’t be mayor of New York without having the support of the Police Department,” Professor Moss said. β€œDe Blasio never recovered from the loss of respect police gave him.”

Mr. de Blasio balanced calls for reform with his choice for commissioner: William Bratton, a well-established leader whose experience running the department in the 1990s comforted many police unions.

This is such a terrible and anti-democratic idea. The mayor of NYC should not need the support of the NYPD. There are pragmatic reasons why the mayor needs to have a working relationship with the police, but the NYPD doesn't get a veto over what voters want. www.nytimes.com/2025/09/08/n...
