Over the weekend, some of our lab members volunteered their time at the Science Olympiad STEM Expo, sharing our research with students, parents, and educators from all over Ohio! We thank CCBBI and Ohio Science Olympiad for the opportunity, we had a lot of fun!

Congratulations to our graduate student, Kelly Hiersche for winning the Herbert A. Toops Research Award for the most outstanding and creative article published by a Psychology graduate student in 2024!

Happy last day of classes, it's been a great semester!

Today is also very good day because we are collecting our very first eye tracking data! Huge thank you to our PI, grad students, support staff, and @pupil-labs.bsky.social for their help getting this off the ground!

HUGE congratulations to grad student @kearaginell.bsky.social for being awarded the NSF GRFP!!! We are so proud and excited to see where her work goes!!!

By isolating configural information, we demonstrate its involvement in driving holistic processing, suggesting that holistic processing extends beyond faces and can occur with any stimulus that requires configural processing for recognition, even with just 30 minutes of training time.

We also trained a convolutional neural network with these stimuli, and we observed the same effects as in humans: holistic disruptions occurred specifically for configural, but not featural stimuli.
