Now when I do my reviews does “fun” find its way in there. Often yes. It slips off my tongue. Do I wish I came up with other words when I hear myself say them in the editing process, of course. However it isn’t all bad, because as consumers I believe when we hear the word we use it as a… 4/x

…there is still a somewhat inherent fun aspect built into the games. I think even bad games have a fun aspect to them too. So using “fun” (Type 1) as a descriptor ends up being unnecessary, and redundant.

When I read a book, only on occasions do I want it to be fun. Movies are about 50/50. Visual art, I can probably count on one hand how many times I’d describe pieces I like as fun. Even in the most challenging of games, This War of Mine, Freedom the Underground railroad, Wehrle, Holland…. 2/x

When we hear gamers or reviewers saying that game was “fun” it is most often in Newberry’s Type 1 context. I believe where this falters is that the vast majority of designers and publishers want their games to be fun in the first place. This is different in other entertainment and art forms 1/x

I’m bummed that Coldplay has become the new Nickelback. 😢

Just played this new version with my 8 year old last night. He is now a huge fan of the game as well. CMYK did a wonderful job with the remake.

but it looks like the more hive boards, and having unique frames was "fixed" in the expansion. Not sure I'll buy that as I am not a big expansion guy, but good to know it is out there.

Pretty cool game. Everyone went a different route to get points, and we really had no idea who was going to win until after we counted up points. All the different routes we took, that the game allows this, was my favorite part of the game. I wish there were more hive boards in the game.

Go for it!!! With the speed paints I knocked it out in 10-15 mins. A little sloppier than I would have wanted, and regular mini paints (which I don't own) would have probably been better for this mini, because of all it's flat surfaces...but I'm still pleased with it. Way better than the gray.

🐝 Apiary by @stonemaiergames.com is all set up as the main game for tomorrow’s game day. Super psyched to get this to the table! And I quickly speedpainted my queen bee mini, cuz ya gotta slay that gray!! 🐝

Nailed it! The ease of getting into the game is a very positive highlight. I don’t play the traditional war games but jumped right into this. I also ❤️ how this one is about ideology, and how well you influence the leaders of Czechoslovakia. I thought that was a super cool idea.
