Oi. XD
You know, that's the missing piece for me with thumbnail sketches.
Thanks for sharing this!

As proof that he would never use it again
The Frowch spent three years whittling his pin-bat thin
To this day, no one has ever seen the Frownch grin.
But they say no Who loves quiet
nearly as much as him.
The Frownch, he was saddened, with a True Sad,
He couldn't remember what had made him mad.
Without all the vigor that his anger had
He finally rested, and all Whos were glad.
The Frownch he would rave!
The Frownch he would shout!
He beat on the walls, ran 'round about
They had no choice but to take his voicebox out!
At last he was exhausted, and just laid about.
Within they all tossed the old scraggily Frownch
Forcing him to sit still on the Frumpiest Couch
Sixty thousand and seventeen times he said "ouch"
Each counted, and placed into the Counting Pouch!
So! With the last new pointy hammering-nail,
Hammered in by the good Mr. James H. McKrail
The Hammer-Who, who above all was not frail
He fastened the last board of the new Whoville Jail.
The awful things that the Frownch did pursue
I do not need to tell any Who
They all know, and so do you!
I will tell you now, what all Whoville did do:
I was shown this, and had to write a response to it.

I think that's fair expectations, if not definition, hence "Roguelike" and not "Rogue clone." We agree here that thanks to procedural generation, the territory is different every time, regions notwithstanding.
I never played Majora's, myself. Someday I will. (Hope springs eternal for a N64 mini)
Yep. I'd argue Majora's Mask isn't a roguelike at all, though this is also a thing and I think you're right about that. Surely obfuscation by marketing has not helped!
"Roguelike" means "territory is different every time."
Sure, though it's not map-and-territory, rather that the territory no longer exists.

13.12.2025 02:13 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 1 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Aye. And if we extend the idea all the way through, it's always some sort of limited "dungeon" or confined area that's always different, which can be defeated and the skill the hero gains can be brought outside, which is fair.
Otherwise, what has one actually overcome? Won't be there next time.
