More than a bit concerened about global heating and climate change.
First global heating related extreme weather event of 2025 comes from Manchester.
02.01.2025 00:05 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0For the first time ever all the producers of operational surface temperature products will coordinate their 2024 releases on Jan 10.
This includes NASA, NOAA, Hadley Centre/CRU, Berkeley Earth and Copernicus (ECMWF).
Congratulations to Prof. Phil Jones (UEA) for receiving an OBE for services to climatology!
Well deserved and long overdue recognition for his efforts over many decades to collate and analyse observational records of climatic changes.

Global mean surface temperature anomalies for each year from 1891 to 2024. There is interannual variability and a long-term warming trend. 5-year running means and a long-term linear trend line are also shown (0.77Β°C per century).
π¨ The first preliminary analysis from the Japan Meteorological Agency highlights 2024 as the warmest year on record globally (since at least 1891 in this data).
Additional climate rankings will be released on 1/10/2025 for other datasets.

It's all very well people saying nice things about Jimmy Carter now, but shame they didn't listen and act accordingly at the time.

Engineers always say βbut *our* design for battery/connector/module is 2% better than a standard oneβ, missing the point that itβs far worse for repair, reuse, recycling & minimising extra βstuffβ. Itβs maddening.

Landowning lobbyists had got the Tories to put in a deadline of 2031 to register 49,000 miles of lost paths.
Next step: a right of responsible access, please!

Each new individual study should be taken within the larger context of that field. Thatβs why I follow @rahmstorf.bsky.social and I recommend his latest talk here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=mm_Y...

Whoever controls production, and the surplus we produce, determines the shape and direction of our civilisation. If we do not have democratic control over our surplus then we can hardly say we live in a democracy.

Our study found that a greater number of typhoons landfalling in the country are reaching Category 3-5 levels as fossil fuel emissions heat the climate.

Insane immorality of nuclear power.
Dumping cost of toxic waste from 30yrs of electricity,on all future generations.
Just like carbon pollution.
We need renewables,storage,efficiency.

The Church of England and its tolerance for abusers is a disgrace.
And these bishops who put the safety of children last, well behind their concern for the Church's reputation and fell feeling for their abusing colleagues, should absolutely not be in the House of Lords.
Disgusting. A new University of York study has found that sites popular with swimmers around the UK to be suffering from pollution with bacteria and chemicals alongside resistance genes that could limit the effectiveness of modern medicine.
