Guys are going old school with this wall. Multi-wythe is how we used to build. Those late 19th century houses are still holding up pretty well.

Thanks for the suggestions! I'm looking at the fantech units, but I'm worried about their leakage when normally closed. I'll see if they're sitenhas a published spec sheet. It's definitely worth further investigation, though, especially since the transom window option is kind of a hack.

My occupant is a real asshole, and he's also short and bald. Fortunately, though, he doesn't mind cold or warm air too much. The window is pretty high, and he's hoping it won't be too much of a nuisance. Range hood is about 8' away from the window.

Yup. Looking at the santefe md33 or id 24 on each floor. They're pricey, but we dont need duct work. Plus, chiltrex has dewpoint monitors for their systems that will prevent unsafe operation.

One other thing i like with the passive makeup design is that fault detection is extremely easy. Look over at the window and see if it works. Often, these makeup air systems dont have good fault indicators.

I've been mulling that, but I can't find any dampers that do a good job sealing when not in use. Do you have recommendations for good sealing dampers?

Honestly, I wish there were more automated window systems on the market. It's such a cheap solution to getting large volumes of fresh air into a building. Honda Smart Home had a few of these for nighttime pre-cooling.

3" of 2lb spray foam across the entire exterior. ERVs will replace bathroom exhaust and will be primary filter. But we're also planning on actuated windows for makeup air for the range hood. I may dual purpose this if CO2 or PM becomes and issue.

Not if you plan for radiant heating and cooling.
