Good example of data used to criminalize immigrants even when it argues the opposite. Undocumented immigrants make up 3% of the US population but 0.008% of those arrested (2/264). The article suggests they are criminals (and worse) despite providing a much lower population rate of criminality.

Two additional quick notes on masks:
1) ICE is wearing masks while the White House forces universities to end mask mandates so they can identify student protestors;
2) ICE has started to use an app on their phones to identify migrants via face recognition, which won't function if they wear a mask.

Straight out of the playbook we saw during the BLM movement: criminalize one person. Cause a protest. Criminalize protestors. Justify more arrests and more violence.

yes, be furious at everyone being mistaken for "gang members" and deported to El Salvador AND remember that "gang members" have US constitutional rights too and don't deserve the inhumane treatment of El Salvador's prisons

UM has something like a 55% indirect cost rate. Cutting it to 15% is going to be catastrophic, both for research infrastructure and for everyone whose job is paid for by those grants. Once again, Trump's policies will hit the working class first and hardest.

The Other Americans: Fascismβs Ugly Shadow in Latin America
In Latin America, the roots of fascism run deep. Across the hemisphere, fascist and far-right ideologies are reemerging, often growing out of religious movements.
Want some predictions? Ask a Latin Americanist. I always hoped knowledge about Pinochet, Maduro, Ortega, &, well Bukele, was just history, but as we discuss Guantanamo bay & prisons in El Salvador, it's clear that Latin America history has lots to teach us.

Yes, your alerts are blowing up. Yes, it's essential to identify WHICH agency is present. But be patient with folks who can't do so. There's an agency invested in confusing them

This is a really good example of why it's so hard to identify wether the agents on the scene are #ICE. Their vests literally say "POLICE," even though they are not. They are well aware of this confusion and do not change it...β->
