If I say: ‘Goodnight from Michael Sleep, working in his shed to feed his prophesying homunculi …’ you have both the show’s premise and an understanding of why it feels so Hooklandian to me. Everyday weirdness in stories about people like us.

Goodnight from Roz Greene, braiding her fingers with her lover’s out of both fear and desire as they walk the dark of Needle Lane. Goodnight from David Sands, perturbed by the petrol station cashier twitching when he mentioned he was driving up to Vow Hill. Goodnight from Hookland.

The Long Neolithic is continuity with our fundamental nature. To step into a stone circles is to know we are pattern makers, season markers. It is a knowing we have always looked to sky, always had our rituals and mysteries of death. We are lithic. – Dr. K. Brophy #StandingStoneSunday

Goodnight from No. 45 Ambler Street, where the spider in the spare room is weaving omens into its web without much hope of valid interpretation. Goodnight from Jerry Reston, feeling uneasy having picked up a hitchhiker with hands that appear to be made of bronze. Goodnight from Hookland.

Every hour is the witching hour. We are as potent at dawn or noon as we are at the suggested 3am. We flourish during the solar alchemy of twilight. We are creatures of the threshold. The turning of time is a powerful engine of magics. – #EmilyCBanting, 1982 #WitchSky

Donate to Save the Heritage Centre, organized by David Bridson
It is with huge regret and great sadness that the Joseph Williamson Society has to report that,… David Bridson needs your support for Save the Heritage Centre
If you've ever marvelled at the vaulted Victorian subterranea of Liverpool's Williamson tunnels you have The Heritage Centre to thank. Unfortunately, it will be closing for good on June 1st if they can't raise £12k.
Here's how you can help

On the turn of Midnight, on the very bounds, the ragged rone of Christmastide, Old Fox had quietly left the sleeping cottage. Under the clear, cold January sky he went, lantern in one paw, withy basket in another, along the frost-hardened field-paths up to the highest point in the Barrows. There he waited, patient and unmoving, until a lanterned party could be seen far below along the Sea Road; three travellers and their servants treading a glimmering path of star-light, a path so strange and so important, that it must be followed year on year on year.
He signalled to them with his light and they stayed a while until he reached them, and he gave them Twelfth Cake and wine, and talked with them in bounded formal words, which must not change lest the story falter and snag its golden threads.
When the morning star rose, they left and Old Fox watched them walk along that ancient Dorset road, towards the still-dark village and beyond, their bright silks and pearls fading into the dawn light, until he could only see faint shadows by the Winter briar.

A fox's profile silhouetted against the darkness.
Lit candles in silver holders decorate the branches of a Christmas tree.
That dusk, in the dark drawing room, Old Fox lit the beeswax candles on the spruce tree for the last time & the ghosts of the past & of those yet to come stepped forward, held in their spun-gold for a brief weighted moment, for the end of Yuletide is leaden with time, with the fugacity of all things

Ever since the class project on ancient Egypt, the children have taken to calling a particular grave 'the Moss Mummy'. They leave her all sorts of afterlife offerings. I'm told she is fond of sherbet dabs, rhubarb and custard chews as well as certain bubblegum cards. – Joanna Vickers, 1982 #VOH

The mire edge in winter never entirely convinces me it's asleep. Sometimes I'm sure the slow breaths of Stay Belows at mud bubble up to the surface. Sometimes in the water's stillness as it waits on ice alchemy, I am sure I see the reflection of the Iron-clawed Hag's spirit. – Joanna Vickers #VOH
