No, you're right it is simple math. Roads are expensive to maintain and rebuild (this is a number for annualized life cycle costs of roads, maintx + reconstruction). And it is easier to afford when shared by more people. This concept is not well understood in local political discourse.

ultimately my fear lies with the stupidity of decision makers.

the biggest threats to the city planning and transpo industries in the US have been ongoing for a hundred years. we have to rescue it from convention. AI is but one tool for both sides but will be invariably weighted to status quo funding models.

it's very much a threat due to the hype, promise, and perception. But it is vaporware compared to true insight and experience. and that is the battle.
