RPA does a lot of good stuff, but when it comes to AI & datacenters, it doesn't seem to have heard of "the cloud". If the goal is AI jobs, it has nothing to do with where the data centers are located: rpa.org/news/lab/pla...

The decline in reading is across countries and massive:

Love Reading Rainbow is back, but it's worth thinking about what is actually destroying literacy – smartphones and short-form video. Great newsletter about it in the Cultural Capital newsletter here: jmarriott.substack.com/p/the-dawn-o...

Decimation of local media is harming accountability on safe streets. Even while public interest is surging in Hudson County and NJ, there is no longer comprehensive coverage of fatal crashes. He wants to be mayor of Jersey City, but former Gov. Jim McGreevey is dodging basic questions on street safety. Why do some politicians think they can recycle the politics of the past and continue to ignore the carnage on our streets?

πŸ“Ί Federal and state funding cuts have resulted in the loss of public television in NJ.
πŸ“° Local newspapers are shutting down right-and-left.

We need new sustainable models to fund and engage the public for democratic accountability.

1. Bluesky doesn’t downrank links
2. You can choose your own algorithm from among thousands
3. The whole app is open source

This keeps it a free and open platform by design, leading to better click-throughs and traffic to your site.

We πŸ’™ the open web.

But ChatGPT-5 Thinking went to the source and read the original White House announcement and was able to identify and on-going discrepancy even before clarifications today that the fee was one-time.

Perplexity Perplexity is a free AI-powered answer engine that provides accurate, trusted, and real-time answers to any question.

One example is the surprise controversial new H1-B fee of $100,000. Because Commerce Secretary Lutnick misstated that the fee was annual, many news reports transmitted that. Even now, Perplexity in fast mode will report that the new fee is annual, not one-time: www.perplexity.ai/search/is-th...

There's more of a focus on communities so it might make sense to try to charge community hosts, but I think it's hard to see an even harder to use Bluesky succeed. Mastodon also makes it risky for authors and hard to imagine creators wanting to invest in a platform like that.

For fact checking:
βœ… ChatGPT-5 Thinking mode or Perplexity's Research Mode
❌ Regular Perplexity, anything that returns fast

Secondary sources are shortcuts for LLMs to not do the thinking themselves. But then they are laundered through the perceived impartiality of an AI that isn't checking them.

Seeing increasing number of cases where LLM "hallucination" is a good thing. Social media and news reports have herd dynamics, and one source of misinformation pollutes them all.

RAG check-the-news approach fails to find discrepancies with primary sources. But Thinking/Deep Research finds them.

I was living in NYC and 9/11 like the Great Recession or Covid for others defined my adulthood. It all feels so impossibly distant now. What came after is up for debate, but it's hard to imagine now the unity that was felt across political lines. Crime even took a vacation for two months.

Interesting: Stumbled upon a ChatGPT 5 mode that seems to attach a confidence to each statement. It prompted me if I wanted to do this and saved it to memory.

I wonder what the confidence represents. Always a chance the LLM is just trying to please, but seemed like a programmed mode to me.

Google's AI mode is *really* fast. Google is good at what they are good at.

Next step, universal routing? It's nice if it's not a complicated query but I do think I would prefer it think harder if it's not simple and also go to search and skip the AI if it seems like that was the intent.
