Beth had also been at her job for around 5 months when the Christmas Eve incident happened.
Sandie had been in the same workplace since she became a nurse in 1994.
She'd been there 29 years when she decided to try to enforce her own idea of what NHS policy should be.

Flowers for Beth
Our understanding of this statement is that Sandie Peggie wants Beth to be legally forced to make a statement that she was complicit in harming Sandie for whistleblowing and personally pay her money for hurt feelings.
This is not over for Beth - therefore, it is not over for us.

It is understood the nurse is seeking compensation from Dr Upton & NHS Fife if she wins the tribunal, according to The Courier newspaper.
She is seeking a pay out from both for "unlawful discrimination", "harassment" and "hurt feelings".
The newspaper also revealed that Ms Peggie wants an additional 25% compensation from NHS Fife due to an "unreasonable delay" to the health board's delay to its internal investigation into her conduct.
The demands were set out in May 2024 and include a "protected disclosure detriment" declaration from both respondents.
The nurse may also ask for a specific policy update from NHS on the protection of single-sex spaces, with ramifications for the health service across the country
Wait, there's more! Here are the demands Sandie Peggie has made.
She wants Beth to personally pay her and make a "protected disclosure detriment" declaration alongside NHS Fife.
A 'Protected disclosure' is otherwise known as whistleblowing.

Beth will likely to waiting until December to hear an outcome that she never had a lot of control over.
The petition to retain her anonymity was rejected Nov 2024. She will have been subjected to a year of intense public scrutiny for following NHS policy.

We need to talk about what happens next for Beth.
The tribunal will reconvene on September 1st & 2nd for verbal arguments from the lawyers. While the judge could deliver a verdict on the spot, he is more likely to take several months to respond in writing.

This has a number of implications;

The EHRC *did not* say that the guidance is being sent in December. They said that they would send it to the Minister by the end of August. I have checked both my own notes, my colleague's transcript, and Tribunal Tweets.
I'm not sure of the source of the December claim.

A green coralroot orchid with a trans, nonbinary flag and pastel coloured petals is on the left with a brown, yellow and pink thistle next to it. In front of the flowers is a banner with "solidarity!" written in a blue, pink, yellow and dark pink colour block background. Next to the flowers are two little rectangles in pink and blue with "NHS are [unclear]" written beneath

A coral root orchid and thistle have beautifully shaded green stalks and are topped with flowers in blue, pink and white with the trans pride colours continuing into the lavender flowers. The banner is pink and purple with blue accents and a message that reads "we stand with you!" There is a tiny heart hidden in the O of the you and trans symbols with a little fist drawn next to the message. A nonbinary flag is slipped in the space between the banner and the flowers and the whole design is surrounded by yellow zigzags that look like lightning bolts.
We are currently a very small team so sometimes the logistics (like the PO box!) can be more difficult than expected.
Meeting members of the public more than makes up for it. The person who designed this may well never meet Beth - but they cared. And we get the honour of passing that on. πΈ

A coralroot orchid, thistle and lavender are filled with a burst of colour. Purples and greens combine on the orchid, the thistle is topped with orange surrounded by pinks, burgundy and blue, the lavender is a tonal mix of blue, beige and purple with some parts left white for contrast.
The Flowers are covered in a banner coloured like a rainbow, with pink and purple waves on one side and blue and green on the other. Surrounding the flowers and banner are stars, gender symbols of all kinds, hearts and a moon with the messages "you matter!" And "we love you!"

Yes, SM petitioned against Beth's anonymity & pushed the story in the press to increase exposure.
And sure, Maya testified & raised "basic facts" about autogynephilia to the court.
Naomi Cunningham acted as counsel for Sandie Peggie as part of her private practice, tho. So it's not Sex Matters.

An exerpt from the Sex Matters website written by Maya Forstater. It reads:
"After we had helped Sandie get her case started, Sex Matters stepped back and left Margaret to represent her client. Margaret had been following the Edinburgh Rape Crisis Centre case and it was she who asked Naomi Cunningham to act as counsel. Sex Matters has continued to support sandie by helping to get the story in the press. I was also a witness in the case, explaining some basic facts about why many women don't wish to share changing rooms with men, even if they identify as women. In my witness statement, I explained about autogynephilia.
Sex Matters also intervened for open justice to make sure that Beth Upton's identity was not anonymised. As Sandie said: "Changing rooms are places for privacy, courtrooms aren't."
To be clear about roles: Naomi Cunningham is acting for Sandie in her private practice as a barrister, not as chair of Sex Matters. Sex Matters is not funding this case."
Maya Forstater also made it clear in her update on the 18th July that Sex Matters "stepped back".
