Sadly with disability under EA proving it is huge, one of the greatest weaknesses of it. I could see trans going the same way in courts.

Deaf and disabled cis queer woman. Interests in law, disability justice, cats, technology. Drinks a lot of tea.

16.02.2026 10:57 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I'm surprised she stuck around as long as she did. She's been treated disgracefully by the transphobic meangirl brigade and the courts.
I hope Dr Upton is able to get on with her life in peace away from any of this.
It really shows how out of touch some judges are... No idea what harassment and discrimination some trans people are subjected to everyday in some places.
And it basically condones it, the idea that the minoritised group is expected to just tolerate it...
Can't see how this works at places like my university workplace where many staff are also students...
And the idea that it won't need 'enforcing' cos trans people will meekly just go to the wrong loos.
Our LGBTQ staff network is being very clear we're not obeying a bad rule like this.
Those in England who are just brushing past this because it's 'only' Northern Ireland would be well advised to pay more attention because the UK govt has used NI to get at trans people before and they will do it again.
15.02.2026 09:24 β π 65 π 15 π¬ 3 π 0We're now getting a lot of fake-AI-shock stories... Fake news about the fake news. Recursion all the way down.
15.02.2026 14:55 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Eliminating gender studies courses helps to ensure that universities and other institutions will continue to protect men who benefit from the abuse of women and girls, either directly or through their connections to those who exploit girls and women for profit.

In the Darlington case, even with the apologist judge excusing the gossip and harassment of the trans employee, it was clear the transphobes were spreading all sorts of gossip and fabricating claims against her...
14.02.2026 21:47 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Probably worth mentioning that you as an individual have no obligation to tell your employer that you are trans and heck, all this stuff is on the employer, not the employees.
13.02.2026 12:56 β π 9 π 2 π¬ 0 π 0Judgey is also naive that we're going to comply and that we won't require transphobes to police their damned transphobia.
We're not obeying this time. If they want to exclude folk, they'll have to fight for every inch.
That sounds super stressful all round.
14.02.2026 21:39 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Historically I was encouraging people to feel able to disclose LGB & T status on equality monitoring forms along with other queer orgs.
But it's not safe any more and has not been safe for some time.
It needs cis and straight allies to refuse to engage with these Qs as well: "prefer not to say"
I was impressed by it and her too. I think she's too often been badly represented and dissed, and stuff she was saying in the 90s is only now mainstream and understood (and she was part of pushing that).
Agree about the voting Tory tho, WEIRD!
Not Jewish, and not a Green Party member, but I do think you should listen to your Jewish members and friends on stuff like this.
14.02.2026 12:06 β π 5 π 2 π¬ 0 π 0Referred pain at a guess (assuming the above wasn't a rhetorical question).
I get a nasty pain between my thumb/index/wrist which is something called the ECRL from the elbow or if my shoulder is subluxating, the shoulder itself (which is a pain to try and rest).
Bodies, who'd have em!
Amazingly lovely amounts of gay!
I love this photo, it's utterly fabulous. π³οΈβππ
DC also lets employers mark their own sodding homework.
Every disability discrim I have ever experienced has come from a Disability Confident (or Two Ticks, predecessor) scheme employer.
I think employers should have to report how many disability discrim claims are issued against them & findings.
Disability Confident is a pointless scheme when there are very subjective criteria, pass it on.
14.02.2026 13:48 β π 17 π 4 π¬ 2 π 2What's the legal status of this ruling where a binary gendered trans person is both a service user AND an employee?
Many universities have group-toilet facilities which are used by both staff and students. Many uni staff are also students.
This could get legally complex very quickly...
My understanding of UK law is that you do NOT have to comply with some external company card (which the disabled person pays for and risks ??? data sharing) to get access to adjustments.
I would sue if required to have a Nimbus.
The EqA legal test does not say "if you proved it (with Nimbus)".
Yup.
Cycling UK is consulting at the moment and everyone i know is like "You've screwed up, get better legal advice, reverse your transphobic policies or you're doomed. We've only not left cos British Cycling is worse, but we're looking at options! Sort Yourselves Out!"
Funnily when women speak...
I've been trying to reverse this by going back to reading more books, especially books which are not-stressful as my nervous system NEEDS a wind-down. Can highly recommend!
14.02.2026 19:30 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I think in some ways the Far Right groups have have funded transphobes wanted this to happen, they didn't just want to hurt trans or LGB/T people they wanted to hurt women and divide us all, waste our limited capacity fighting wasted battles and destroy all women's rights.
14.02.2026 19:27 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I honestly think WI central caved too quickly. They were offered support e.g. by GLP, didn't consult their members at ALL and just caved.
I kind of hope WI central will reverse and admit they screwed up, consult properly and reverse the policy... But they're too stupid/chicken.
It is a bit better today but it's taking it's time to shift.
14.02.2026 19:15 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Not really. Not clueful training.
My experience is people can often mean we'll, but they're left with whatever understanding they have which can be wildly off the mark.
The idea 'less can be more' esp around chit chat.
I really notice the difference in quality between judgments. Some do a more balanced feeling writeup than others.
Not just high profile JR type stuff, but County court discrim judgments that are something I've read a lot on activism wise. Sometimes it's down to clear info about niche thing in args.
I've not managed to read or the @goodlawproject.bsky.social EHRC case stuff in detail yet. Or the shitty schools guidance.
I'm also behind on consultations about mobility aids, couldn't manage a @wheelsforwellbeing.org.uk webinar yesterday. Will try for another one.
Can't manage audio or video π΅βπ«
Migraines can get in the sea. Day 2 and counting. Wish I'd blatted the intermittent visual aura nonsense earlier this week.
Apparently the baseline level of 'visual disturbance' I have is very high and challenging to fully treat.
CGRP injections definitely help. Just trying to deal with breakthru.
I really appreciate you being clear about your methodology, reasoning and that you are careful to try to be accurate within your clearly stated limits.
