August heat is steadily taking hold from here! Nothing extreme by August standards, but certainly steamier than we've been the past several days. #okwx

80s in August have been AWESOME, but they're not quite as rare as you might think!

Obviously we associate August with brutal heat (which we typically get plenty of), but we do typically average several days in August with highs below 90 degrees. Of course, every year is different! #okwx

We're still below normal to start the week! But all good things must come to an end. A steady return to August heat is on the way later this week. #okwx

Tulsa drivers, there's something new to be aware of at the I-44/US-75 construction zone:

Starting today, the southbound US-75 ramp to westbound I-44 is closed and ODOT says it will stay closed for up to two years.

The northbound US-75 off-ramp to W. 41st St is also closed this week. #TulsaTraffic

These past few days have felt wonderful! If only we could start off every August this way! #okwx

Scattered storm chances increase during the day Sunday through Sunday night, particularly west of Tulsa. Chances decrease the further east you go.

We are living right for the first weekend of August with well below normal temperatures!! It'll be a great Saturday with a light northeast breeze.

Sunday morning will be pleasantly cool and Sunday afternoon will again be below normal with light winds and clouds gradually increasing. #okwx

Now THIS is how I prefer to start August! Yesterday's high of 80° in Tulsa was tied for our 4th coolest high on record for August 1st! 🙌 #okwx

6:30 AM Saturday: Stationary storms remained parked over a very narrow corridor of Latimer and Le Flore Counties. McAlester picked up over 2" of rain before sunrise and Wilburton has picked up 3" of rain in just an hour or two this morning!

Watch out for flooding in far southeastern Oklahoma. #okwx

We're certainly used to having absolute scorchers this time of year. But not today!! #okwx

It's 1:30 PM on August 1st, and THESE are our temperatures across Green Country. Wow!!! 🤩 #okwx

I'm not surprised! With all the tropical moisture we've had this summer, we've had more than a few BIG raindrop days it seems like.

There are some size classification charts out there. I certainly don't get a chance to bust them out much though! Haha.

9:15 AM: An MCV (Mesoscale Convective Vortex) has been spinning over the Tulsa metro this morning bringing repeated rounds of rain.

This will slowly slide east with time but flooding threats continue. Areas east of Tulsa could deal with this for a while later this morning into this afternoon. #okwx

7:50 AM: Tulsa drivers, it is a mess of a Friday morning commute as slow-moving heavy storms are parked right over Tulsa right now. Numerous crashes have occurred on our metro highways.

Plan for a slow morning drive, and be aware that flooding could quickly occur. #TulsaTraffic

7:25 AM: Some very heavy, slow-moving rains are filling in across Tulsa... not good timing for morning rush hour. There are several crashes on Tulsa highways right now.

Plan for a slow, soggy morning drive and watch out for localized flooding! These storms are not moving much. #okwx

Tulsa metro drivers: Avoid the I-44/SH-66 interchange if you can, especially eastbound.

Eastbound lanes of I-44 going toward SH-66 are blocked due to multiple reported crashes in the construction zone. Heavy storms over that area are definitely not helping the cause. #TulsaTraffic

6:20 AM Friday: Some locally heavy storms are rolling across NE OK this morning.

They're starting to move a bit now, but they were close to stationary earlier. Localized flooding will be possible under the heaviest storms. #okwx

Still steamy in southeastern Oklahoma, but a great change in pace across northeastern Oklahoma and southeast Kansas after the hottest day of the year yesterday! #okwx

Consider the heat wave broken in Tulsa!! 🙌

A several day stretch of below normal temperatures is moving in -- just as August begins! Scattered storms are possible today and Friday, with another opportunity later Sunday into Monday morning. #okwx

Relief starts to arrive today! The long-awaited cold front is slowly sliding south, which means that friends in southeastern OK will have to be a little more patient as you'll still be much steamier than northeast OK and southeast KS today.

Everyone will feel below normal temps on Friday! #okwx

The 100° mark has officially been reached in Tulsa for the first time this year. So... congrats, everyone? 🫠🥵

This is quite a bit later than our first 100° day of the past few summers. And that is fine by me! #okwx

7 Day Forecast for the Tulsa metro area. 100 degree temperatures for today and Wednesday, with a high of 91 on Thursday as a cold front arrives. 85 for a high Friday, 86 for a high Saturday, and 89 for a high on Sunday!

It's a scorching end to July, but take a peep at those temperatures at the end of the week... 👀

It's been almost a full year since we reached 100° in Tulsa and across much of Green Country. We're expecting to get there today and again tomorrow! Our hottest days of the year so far are upon us. 🥵

There's no hiding from the heat to start the week, but... relief is coming! A cold front shows up Thursday with below normal temperatures as August begins on Friday. We don't often get to say that! #okwx
