EU Commissioner slams plans to take European football games abroad Playing regular-season European football games outside Europe would be a ‘betrayal’ of the sport’s identity and community roots, according to the EU Commissioner Glenn Micallef.

Football Supporters Europe (FSE) is appalled by the latest attempts by La Liga and Lega Serie A to relocate competitive domestic matches to the United States and Australia. We are following the broader impact on football with the utmost concern. Moving games from their domestic territories strikes at the heart of the relationship between fans and their teams, breaking vital links between clubs and their communities. FSE reiterates its total, unequivocal opposition to the deterritorialisation of football. We stand with all those affected by these reckless and ill-considered proposals and call on all parties to prioritise the good of the game over short-term commercial gain. FSE is liaising with members, football stakeholders, affected groups, and partner organisations in the rest of the world to collectively resist the latest threat to the very nature of football. Fan mobilisation has defeated previous attacks on football. And we are ready to fight once again to protect the future of our game.
