After Hurricane María, Puerto Rico closed over 280 public schools while expanding charter schools & private education—a tactic later used in New Orleans post-Katrina. The goal? Destroy public education & force privatization.

5/ The blueprint for austerity in PR? Detroit & Flint, Michigan. Cut funding, privatize public resources, and push out working-class people. Puerto Rico was used as a case study to normalize economic violence against marginalized communities before expanding it further.

4/ Disaster Capitalism & Economic Collapse
The U.S. destroyed Puerto Rico’s economy through laws like the Jones Act, forcing the island to import goods at higher prices than anywhere else in the U.S. Then, Congress imposed a fiscal control board (La Junta) that gutted public services.

3/ Puerto Rican women were told the sterilization procedure was reversible (it wasn’t). This was part of a larger eugenics movement to control “undesirable” populations—aka poor, brown, & Black communities. Sound familiar? The same ideology is behind today’s abortion bans.

2/ Forced Sterilization & Reproductive Control
Between the 1930s-1970s, the U.S. government sterilized over one-third of Puerto Rican women—without their full knowledge or consent. They tested birth control pills on Puerto Rican women before bringing them to the mainland.

I realized your tone and I apologize for that. Always being under the American boot gets tiring. Ask black people. And that’s the intent. Now the issue is if the US lets us even vote for it.

We do that by establishing trade with our neighbors and other countries from around the world. We do that by finally being able to use freight ships from the rest of the world. We stop the bleeding and exploitation from the US and push for privatization. We provide for ourselves.
