I have multiple browser profiles, which probably explains it. I am reassured that it's only once per install and tied to something specific (updates)! Might be worth indicating that somewhere if it's not already...that was not obvious to me on getting the page and I was worried it was a seasonal ad.

Sorry for the Interruption, but RECAP and Free Law Project Need Your Support.

Where did this tab come from?
You use the RECAP extension. RECAP is maintained by Free Law Project, a small non-profit that works to improve the American judicial system.

Maintaining RECAP is difficult and expensive and we sometimes pop open a tab like this to ask for your support.

If RECAP has saved you time or money or if you believe in the work we do, we hope you will support us.

Sorry to interrupt you.

The RECAP extension you have installed is maintained by Free Law Project, a non-profit that works to improve the justice system. This is our website. Once each year we ask for donations so we can continue hosting and enhancing RECAP.

The more support you give, the more we are able to do.

We need your support to continue enhancing and maintaining the RECAP system. If RECAP has saved you money or if you believe in what we do, please help us with a tax-deductible donation today.

@free.law, I love and value your work, but randomly popping up a tab and grabbing focus in my browser (twice today, with no way to turn it off?!?) to tell me to give money to RECAP is a betrayal of user trust.

Hosting my 3rd community Flock camera discussion night in my rural PNW area.
This time we expanded it out to not just Skamania (caught up in that WA public records lawsuit over our cameras) but neighboring OR counties considering it. I have the jitters! Over 80 people interested on the rsvp, omg.

This is what government censorship actually looks like: defunding entire fields, deporting researchers, and quite effectively chilling speech that helps people understand how our information systems are being exploited and calls out powerful people and platforms for their bullshit.

Jarrus et al v. Governor of Michigan et al, No. 4:2025cv11168 - Document 176 (E.D. Mich. 2025) Jarrus et al v. Governor of Michigan et al, No. 4:2025cv11168 - Document 176 (E.D. Mich. 2025) case opinion from the Eastern District of Michigan U.S. Federal District Court

This opinion from E.D. Mich. on Rule 11 and generative A.I. is an absolute *banger*. law.justia.com/cases/federa...
The court specifically explains why the problem of A.I. is not limited to "hallucinating" case citations. Even plausible legal "analysis" *from an A.I.* is trouble!
