Idk after years of seeing studios dive in, flounder, and die after one game I think the best move is not to try. Make something that doesn't even need money to get across the finish line, or doesn't need to sustain anyone or anything. Start with the knowledge you will fail, because it's often true.

Unless you have money to magically keep you afloat without returns for like 5 years while making an incredibly demanding product...well...
In this industry, economy, etc. I don't think there's any way to make games that doesn't involve sacrificing sustainability - there's essentially no room to ever fail at all. At some point you'll make a shit deal, or miss a window, or ship a miss, and then its over for everyone.

You need money to even start pre-production. You need money to keep it going. You need money to bring in more people when production ramps up. Once you've shipped you pray to God it lands because you need money yourselves to stay alive. Repeat!
Games are software, interactive media, art, and a product... inclusive of all the difficulties that come with each. At least you don't have to play or bug test a book or movie in the same way, and the bigger the quality/scale/fidelity the greater demand. "A miracle any game gets made" etc.
