Finally fixed this bitch of a rear dial on my E-M1 by spaffing a bunch of contact cleaner into it.

id's main reason to go RT mandatory is that all platforms they were going to ship on are RT capable and it saved a boatload of time because they could use WYSIWYG to iterate faster, which according to their engine lead shaved years off the dev time.

It's something Alex Battaglia from Digital Foundry said in his engine deep dive where he talked to the engineers at Ubisoft. They've lowered the quality of the baked lighting to reach that 9GB. If you want similar quality to RT you will end up with 100's of GB more.

I got brand new Canon Selphy CP1000 portable printer for real cheap. Watching this thing print images is so fun, because it does it in layers and does 4 passes through the printer. It's also so adorable compared to my A2 printing monster.

It's wild how much out brains rely on having something to do so they don't crap out on us. Hope things get better for you soon!

Games have reached the stage where if they shipped with baked in lighting they'd be hundreds of GB bigger. RT & Path Tracing is becoming the standard way to do lighting now, as it also saves devs loads of time. Digital Foundy have a video about Metro Exodus that highlights the dev side.

As much as I hate the current boom in unethically trained generative AI, I do like AI when done 'properly', like Adobe's AI Denoise in Lightroom. It works so well. Both these edits started from the same RAW from my Lumix LX100.

PiP is so annoying. I hate how Google Maps just disappears from the app switcher when I go to open the speed trap app I use (legal here in NL), because it becomes this tiny annoying floating window on my homescreen. Have to turn that off manually after every bloody update too

The Olympus OM-D E-M5 Mark 2 I fixed with the Lumix 12 to 35mm F2.8 lens, which I also fixed

Reassembling the lens after plugging the electronic contact bar back into its socket on the lens logic board

Fixed another E-M5 Mk. II yesterday, and also fixed a dead Lumix G X Vario 12-35 f/2.8. Thought the lens might have the well known AF flex cable issue, but the electronic contact bar wasn't plugged in somehow, probably someone already fixed it and forgot to plug the bar back in LMAO.
