We explore potential structural reasons behind this 'step', finding that neither moves between labour market regions and into urban areas (both associated with high financial rewards) explains this pattern🏙️ This may indicate that there are inherent differences between short- vs long-distance moves🚶
20.11.2025 07:04 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0Furthermore, we find that the 'distance premium' does not increase linearly - instead, the strongest differences in income gains are between movers over more or less than 200 km🤔.
This 'step' is robust to the use of different wage measures and housing cost adjustment💵.
First PhD paper (with Nico Stawarz, Heiko Rüger and Clara H. Mulder) now out #OA in #PSP: We explore the relationship between moving distance and income returns, finding that overall, work-related movers gain more when moving across longer distances💸📈

Zunehmend ungleiche Mietkostenbelastung

When winter feels the longest, we fortunately organize our own PhD-peer workshop at BiB! The ‘wall of compliments’ – where only pep talk is allowed – was a good balance to useful and critical feedback to my paper 🙏 Thanks @eliashofmann.bsky.social and everyone else! #phdlife #populationgeography

09.02.2024 15:41 — 👍 2 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0Do motives of internal migration vary with distance? In a short report based on German panel data we find that this is the case - but that the picture is more complex than you would think 🤔 (report in German, happy to answer questions🤓)
