Tawny owl

Tawny owl

Six weeks ago, I picked up a year-old tawny owl with a broken leg off the main road near our home and dropped him off at our nearest vet.

After a few days, I received one of the most bizarre phone calls I’ve ever had, asking β€œSo when are you coming to pick up your owl?” 🧡

One first step people should do to respond to this is start using the β€œreport a speed trap” function in Apple Maps to report where ICE is operating. Make Apple party to the attempt to protect people.

This week, the Global Sumud Flotilla tried to deliver life-saving aid to Gaza.

Instead, 461 peopleβ€”including New Yorkersβ€”have been detained by the Israeli military.

They must be freed at once. And the deliberate starvation of Palestinians must end now.

Not to be overly dramatic but don't ever say what happened to Khashoggi can't happen here. We've had a lot of things happen here already that "can't happen here"

Vanessa GuillΓ©n and the Importance of Speaking Up Hey there Angry Planet listeners, Matthew here.

@mjgault.bsky.social was interviewing a ABC correspondent about new podcast on the murder of US solder Vanessa GuillΓ©n. When brought up Hesgeth's recent speech, ABC PR interrupted, asked not to talk about that. Then asked Matthew to cut that part. Wild, wild stuff

This is an infuriating and shameful scandal. The Roberts Court is condoning Trump’s law breaking, again, pure and simple. There is no serious path forward for democratic government without Supreme Court reform.

screenshot of Planned parenthood email with a sentence highlighted in blue Welcome to β€œThe Quickie” β€” Planned Parenthood Action Fund’s daily tipsheet on the top health care & reproductive rights stories of the day. You can read β€œThe Quickie'' online here.
In today’s Quickie: Newsflash: Abortion rights are still popular, and Senate Republicans reject proposal to avoid a government shutdown.

LOUDER FOR THE PUNDITS IN THE BACK: 8 IN 10 AMERICANS SUPPORT ABORTION RIGHTS.
This past week, NYT’s Ezra Klein made clear that he hasn’t done the reading when he suggested that the solution to Democrats’ problems is to support anti-abortion candidates in places like Kansas, Ohio, and Missouri.

This commentary is fundamentally dangerous. It’s also misguided and makes zero sense, especially as support for abortion and access to reproductive health care is at an all-time high. Not to mention the fact that while Kansas, Ohio, and Missouri voters all re-elected President Trump, in recent years, they’ve all also passed referendums that expanded access to abortion.

The truth of the matter is, Klein’s rhetoric β€” and those who cosign it β€” emboldens those who would trade away our rights for a chance at political power rather than build on the massive support for sexual and reproductive health care to build real sustainable grassroots momentum. It also ignores the fact that abortion bans are inherently authoritarian. Politicians who want to take away access to abortion aren’t failing a litmus test; they’re backing a policy that will, and already has, cost people their lives.

**You can either believe people should have control over their own bodies or you don’t. Period.** And as we face unprecedented attacks as a nation on all fronts from the Trump administration, it’s chilling that anyone could look beyond facts and reason to throw access to life-saving reproductive health care under the bus.

Look it's fun to dunk on men with bad abortion takes but if your organization supports laws that allow abortion bans later in pregnancy, you're not actually letting people have control over their bodies

Tips The New York Times is providing ways to get in touch and share materials with our journalists confidentially.

I just sent a hot tip to the NYT that the president of the United States publicly called for the Attorney General to persecute his political opposition, the most blatant such corruption in U.S. history, and an obviously impeachable offense. Let’s see if they decide to cover it! www.nytimes.com/tips
