Launching of the Georgios Averof, March, 1910 at the Orlando Shipyard, Leghorn, Italy. She had been purchased by the Greek Goverment and funded by a bequest left by her namesake a wealthy businessman and benefactor.

The Georgios Averof was an Italian Pisa class armored cruiser laid down in 1907. Due to budget constraints, she was placed on sale by the Italian government and the Greeks made an immediate down-payment of 300,000 pounds, the money coming from a bequest of a wealthy benefactor. (1/4)

The Isle of Demons became the setting for the marooning of the French noblewoman, Marguerite de La Rocque, and her lover when their affair was discovered during their transit to the New World in 1542.

A unit of Valentine Infantry Tanks Mk.III in the western desert in 1942. The foremost tank is likely a survivor of Operation CRUSADER as it looks as if the white/red/white marking on the turret and front track cover have only been overpainted in haste. Three men are on the tank, with one of them, likely the commander, peering through his binoculars for the photo opportunity. Likely IWM but I do it have the archive signature.
