Personal account, all opinions my own and not representative of anyone/thing else. Interested in critical thinking, naval history and raising ME/CFS awareness. Also, random nice photos :)

On this day in 1120, the White Ship sank en route from Barfleur to Southampton. William Γtheling, King Henry Iβs only legitimate son and heir to the throne, drowned whilst trying to save his half-sister, Matilda of Perche, who also perished.

Standing in front of a cannon is pretty dangerous, but standing behind one isn't much safer when it's fired!
This gun weighs 2,463kg (about the same as 3.5 cows, 10 pigs or 2000 human brains), plus the weight of the oak carriage, so you'd want to keep your distance!

During routine maintenance, we discovered rot in the ship's apron.
After three weeks of careful inspection and work, weβre pleased to say the rot affected only this one piece.
Removing it was quite the challenge. The team had to use a hydraulic jack applying about 2Tons of force.
