In short, a small number of repeaters didn’t decisively influence the battle. Poor tactics, training, and deployment lost it, in addition to a stronger will to triumph among Native Americans. The moral factor cannot be ignored.

About 42,000 rounds were fired or lost at LB. Troopers claimed one hit for every 840 rounds fired. This may be a bit high. A lack of marksmanship training, poor discipline, and a large number of ill-trained recruits, fed into this. NA deployments were excellent and the ground favored NA’s.

NA accounts confirm that most of the fighting was done at long-range until its last moments, when the increase in firepower benefited NA’s. The army’s Springfields were more accurate and durable at short- to medium-range, but the odds were even gun-wise. The problem lay in poor marksmanship.

Repeaters did not constitute the majority of NA weapons. At least half were armed with bows and arrows. .44 cal Henry’s and Sharps .50 cal were the most common repeaters, but surviving troopers exaggerated the amount of repeating weapons, for obvious reasons. Probably about 1/4 carried repeaters.

Most of the fatal wounds inflicted at LB represented a plethora of firearms. NA accounts have them sporting everything from ancient muzzleloaders to breechloaders to some repeating arms. Nearly 3k rounds recovered pointed to as many as 50 different types of firearms used.

One is an economic theory and the other is a totalitarian political system. Marry them together and you get the USSR (sort of). These folks don’t understand the difference between top-down and bottom-up socialism either. Many on the left are similarly confused.

One can see it in the historiography of the Normandy campaign.

Still the imperial power, eh? Some of themβ€”egged on by their pressβ€”never accepted becoming the junior partner in the war, in terms of strategic direction or manpower. They still think they didn’t need any help, just like the myth of them being β€œalone” after Dunkirk. It’s a minority though.

Two American divisions, one infantry and one armored, helped to clear the Scheldt, and it was hardly a shame. It was an Allied job. Just like the rest of the war. Some folks just can’t get over it.

They complained about Danny. They complain about Chip. They would complain about Jack Buck if he materialized in the booth. They’re miserable people. They should stick to the PD comment section.

One of my friends from grade school was killed in a farming accident on the Fourth of July. His arm got caught in a hay bailer. His brother found him.

Trump Is Removing I.R.S. Chief 2 Months After He Was Confirmed

The man who spent his congressional career trying to defund the IRS and his post-congressional career shilling for shady firms that peddled tax loopholes has (finally) been relieved of his job..running the IRS.

Never have an IRS problem of any other one involving a federal agency. Our government is getting every last dime out of its fax machines.

Imagine if Joe Biden had ordered the Corps of Engineers to raise the level of a river so his family could go kayaking or summered in a $10k/week English mansion. Fox News would have their content for a year.

Marshall long worried that the American people couldn’t take the kinds of losses that had thus far been avoided in a war that might require a degree of sacrifice the nation hadn’t seen since the Civil War. Growing public disquiet over casualties in PTO fed his concerns.

People forget for whom the atomic bomb was originally envisioned. It is also forgotten that the tactical level of war strongly influenced their use, especially after the butcher’s bills at Peleliu, Iwo, and Okinawa were paid. The Japanese’s own defensive strategy drove it.

There was also an unwillingness to face the abundant evidence of the Wehrmacht’s complicity in the Holocaust that was a product of antisemitism in the West and an annoying habit among traditional military historians to treat the Holocaust as a separate subject, which ignored German war aims.
