17.06.2025 00:40 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Long time no post. Events in life can sometimes be hectic. But it's nice to get a reminder of the good things.
Here is a picture of a Pileated Woodpecker. I knew he was around, but he finally made an appearance where I was able to get his picture.

Downy woodpecker
It's been a while since I've been able to get photos, but I do have a lot of shots still to share. This time a Downy woodpecker.

True, I meant it more as a "here have another!"

Dark-eyed Junco
After a while of seeing them this winter, I finally got a photo of one of the Dark-eyed Juncos that visit my feeders.

Belted Kingfisher
A snowy morning looking for shorebirds. I heard a unique bird in the distance and took his picture. Didn't realize he had a fish.

Looking back through my catalog of images since I started Wandering Crane Photography, I found images I took that I have forgotten. They serve to inspire and show me how far I have come.
This is in Kenya during my first trip there, and the place Wandering Crane was born.

A little late of a post, but the meaning is there all the same. Happy New Year to all.

Tufted Titmouse
Black-capped Chickadee
White-throated Sparrow
The fog and rain didn't stop frequent visits to my feeders. Here are a few of them:

White-breasted Nuthatch
At a distance it's easy for me to mistake this Nuthatch as a Chickadee, but when you see the way he moves it quickly becomes clear. Each bird I try to nickname. My Nuthatches are now dubbed Peter Quill. Because his beak looks like the quill of a pen

Another addition to my backyard visitors. This guy is a regular visitor to my feeders. I caught him enjoying a sunflower seed on a cold afternoon.

Thank you. When I started, all my birding was at a destination. Now that I own my own property it has provided me the chance to bring them to me.

Yellow-bellied Sap sucker
When life doesn't allow you to travel, just look in your own backyard. Sometimes I am surprised by what I see.
I have received more birds in my backyard since refilling the feeders. Here are two of the visitors I had. Yellow-bellied Sap Sucker and Bluejay

American Robin
There is something magical when you capture even the most common birds as the snow falls.
I captured this American Robin, when I visited Moraine Park in the Rocky Mountain National Park in Colorado.

I want to go back. It's been a while since I was there.
22.11.2024 23:20 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0A good way for me to differentiate it is the beak. The beak on an Indigo Bunting is short and conical in shape and can have a mix of colors. The Mountain Bluebird has a thin, straight bill that is entirely black in color.

Later the same year, we visited Alberta, Canada, and because the names were similar I must have mixed them up.
Among the other Sunbirds I have seen, I have only seen this one twice during my time in Kenya. However I still haven't captured one this close yet. Nice shot.
