04.02.2026 18:22 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0What's been weird to learn is that other leaders of institutions act the same way. Some of them hoard and protect their influence like it's money because they, too, are rich. You don't get rich by giving your money away and (they seem to believe) you don't get powerful by exercising your power. But, in fact, that is often how power works: using power can help build power. At the very least, power holds no value unless it is exercised, which alone is a valid reason to exercise it. If you are powerful but never use your power, you are not powerful. I'm talking here primarily about the huge, obvious loci of power β the centers of power that exist in part to serve as checks on other centers of power. Congress vis-a-vis the presidency. The media relative to the government. Higher education in contrast to misinformation. But they often aren't serving as checks on what's unfolding, or are obviously and bizarrely using their power only sparingly, garden hoses aimed at protecting their own homes from the wildfire. So it's left to individuals, who have stepped up where institutions have not.
I wrote about Minnesota and ICE and how average Americans are reclaiming the power that the administration is abusing.

30.01.2026 14:27 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Headline from The American Bazaar, viral racist and sexist political ad triggers backlash from White House republicans committee. By Keerthi Ramesh
Political analysts say the incident highlights broader tensions in modern campaign strategy, because short digital videos and social posts can reach millions within hours and elicit instantaneous reactions from political institutions. βThis episode underscores how political communication has evolved,β said University of Alabama political communication expert A.J. Bauer. βCampaigns and their allies are experimenting with highly charged visuals and narrative framing, but thatβs also increasing backlash and accusations of extremism on both sides.β
I am quoted in this AI slop story from some outlet called The American Bazaar.
Not only did I not say this vague/meaningless quote. I have never seen the ad in question nor have I ever received any communication from this so-called βreporter.β
HereΒ΄s a wonderful version on French TV from Β΄61. It usefully has the lyrics superimposed on the screen.

Hey, Sun-Times. Subscriber here, appreciate all your work. I don't know how difficult it is to administer, but NYT allows one to share 10 articles a month. I realize that number may be a bit high for a smaller paper, but I think even a smaller number would spread S-T's influence & be great exposure

28.01.2026 00:10 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0While I think that is true, I also think that it's in part cumulative; the outrage over Pretti's death was primed in part by the outrage over Good's.
Also, Good's car allowed people of bad faith to argue that Ross was threatened; Pretti was shot in the back, and that makes it hard to pretend.

"Direct action means insisting on your right to act as if youβre already free. If someone is doing something bad, you try to stop them, in the way youβd hope anyone would act in a free and just society. If a bunch of cops intervene, you do not treat them like authorities, you act as if they were a bunch of guys in blue costumes with weapons β that is, basically, a violent street gang." . - David Graeber
