@capntom.bsky.social is our Top Geek really...
I had an attack of Griffonitis, by refusing him the award earlier.. I was waiting for 190 *A* at least...
But I am a fair and reasonable judge unlike @tmogriffons.bsky.social so I have now seen sense.
Well done @capntom.bsky.social ๐Ÿฅณ

Brexit: resurrecting the highest of barriers to trade, prosperity, growth & movement (of freight, services & people) across them, without removing either of these barriers elsewhere, was always going to fuck the UK.

The honest referendum question in 2016 should have been:
Do you want to retain your much easier, prosperous access to your continent (clients) & its produce, for much less cost?
OR
Do you want to lose it,
with no equal compensating access anywhere else?

Yep. Freedom of Movement opened up much more of our continent for many more of us.
Ending it will of course do the opposite.

Well yes...the only one country. The Irish passport now best in Europe: do not need a UK passport if have one. Irish passport only one that gives you equal rights in all the EU & EFTA states ..AND in the UK.
Actually The CTA not exactly FoM. Any non UK/Irish family members do not inherit same rights

You exercise your (& your spouse/dependents if travelling together) FoM rights by travelling & moving to another member state not your own,
where here your own member state national immigration rules apply

(Member states have their own sovereign immigration policies over non EU/EFTA citizens)

..& still many people do not know about this
If your spouse & dependents are non EU/EFTA citizens they inherit your EU/EFTA Freedom of Movement rights,
which can use to travel/move to another member state together free of visas & EES, but not your own.
Here your own national immigration rules apply

18.10.2025 16:30 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 6    ๐Ÿ” 3    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

Diff is you have the right to enter; a UK passport holder can enter only at final discretion of an immigration officer.
But if "herself" is your wife she has same automatic right of entry with no EES in/out controls nor questions to be answered if travel together & know your directive 2004/34 rights

Private self drive has benefitted from being subsidised by the explosion of commercial *driver accompanied* traffic .. this is dissipating away.i have also long ago tweeted, unless public money subsidised, the Chunnel & large frequent crossing ferries will become progressively commercially unviable.

I've tweeted loads since 2016 along the lines of "Belarussian Brexit", "Gammon Curtain" & "invest in Pontins"...
Maybe more will now understand what I was warning of??
The extra time, effort & cost to get (you & produce) across Brexit borders will "get worse before it gets worse"

UK Passengers Face Hours of Queues at Spanish Airports as New EES System Launches British holidaymakers heading to Spain could face hours of waiting at passport control, as a new EU border security system causes early disruption at major airports.

I did suggest many years ago "invest in Pontins (& turnips)" as UK gradually (at best) turns full circle to early 1970s of my childhood, when access to our continent (& its produce) for us plebs will again be a rare & special treat, behind the Gammon Curtain

EU/EFTA citizens are no longer allowed to enter the UK on (FoM) just their ID cards.
They are treated like all citizens entering all countries unless having reciprocal FoM rights of entry with the other &/or are part of the same Common Travel Area

Can't wait for next summer's chaos at Western Dock. They've put the EES facility down next the Motis clearance. This is only accessible via the Viaduct, a single lane bridge. So all the trucks import and export, coaches and holiday traffic through here.
