If you believe your team has a successful documentation culture, what do you think contributes most to that?

I had an interview today with an engineering manager of a fairly large org. An interesting topic surfaced during our discussion, the relevance of top tier communication and writing skills.

Something I notice is that doc culture is championed often by org leaders, but same orgs struggle to adopt.

How I estimate work as a staff software engineer

Fascinating take on the ritual of making "estimates" of time for completing software projects to your stakeholders. I generally agree: www.seangoedecke.com/how-i-estima...

It's really too bad the United States Congress no longer exists.

Great breakdown on containers with Docker! It hadn’t crossed my mind to use them as development environments.

Thanks for sharing these. These PR examples outline how I imagine LLMs will be most effective in the coming years.

Playing the role of a β€œgotcha” detector is such an underrated feature of these tools. Feedback on implementation strategy is a paramount use case imo.

Wow how about that for a bottleneck πŸ™ˆ

Hopefully their team can regain sight of what’s important. I’d be surprised if you were the only patron experiencing this.

Out of curiosity, what kind of code was it? Did you feel equally as invested in the code as you might have had you written it all by hand?

Samesies. I believe the more astute observation always sits between the dichotomies.

LLMs remove a lot of rote efforts from software engineering sure, but it’s hard to know if they’ll ever completely replace the need for engineers to have a deep understanding of their domain.

Hacking with Rust is pretty fun, it’d be great to do in a professional environment.

Technofeudalism by Yanis Varoufakis: 9781685891244 | PenguinRandomHouse.com: Books β€œBlending intellectual memoir, history, and economic and technological history, Varoufakis creates an intimate atmosphere that is a genuine pleasure to read ...Β It’s hard to read...

This was a great read. Technology, and specifically massively used internet technology, has been fracturing our society for some time now. It's time to rebuild and focus on what matters, the humans behind the screens. #technofeudalism #saas #tech #data

I don’t hate AI at all, it’s a very fascinating technology.

What I do dislike, is how the cloud oligarchs of our era are trying to pimp it out as much and as fast as they possibly can in the never ending pursuit of their insatiable greed.

It’s time to come back from 5 years away from social media.

So much of life has moved online that simply pulling away from these platforms has created a rather isolating existence.

I’ve healed enough now where I don’t need the isolation anymore, and I’m ready to connect with others once again!
