β€œNobody came”: Hill Country flooding survivors recount anguish, neglect during emotional hearing Residents told state lawmakers about what they’ve lost and the hardships they’re experiencing almost a month after the July 4 disaster devastated the region.

The MAGA-led response to the Texas floods is going great - so great that locals are still finding rotting human body parts in the debris that no one in government appears to care about picking up:

The term β€œunderaged girls” is too often used to soften the blow of the deviant acts by pedophiles.

They are CHILDREN.

The vernacular we use matters!

There’s no downplaying this!!

We are supposed to protect children not enable predators who feast on them!!

A New Era of Reproductive Coercion: A Conversation With Kylie Cheung The author’s new book explores how the Dobbs decision β€œcreated new avenues through which the state and abusive figures can collaboratively punish and control their victims.”

"The reality remains that under patriarchy and under rape culture and under abortion bans, all survivors and all abortion seekers are dehumanized and denied agency by their abuser or by the state," Kylie Cheung tells @amylittlefield.bsky.social in a new Q&A.

Can Anything Halt the Gerrymandering Arms Race? Texas Dem quorum-breakers are seeking to protect voter rights nationwide, but they’re likely engaged in little more than a perfunctory game of chicken.

Our top story: In order to truly throw a wrench in the GOP’s machinations, Democrats would likely have to keep their quorum break going through November, when the state opens up candidate filing for the 2026 elections.

β€œThe proverbial butterfly flapping its wings today can mean your two-week hurricane may quickly evaporate by tomorrow,” Lowry said.

For forecasts beyond a week, meteorologists use an ensemble β€” a collection of models β€” to gauge general regional risks, but not landfall-level precision.

This year, there’s also a new tool for meteorologists and model watchers alike: artificial intelligence-driven forecast models that go out 15 days.

These provide yet another option in an already crowded predictive weather world. But, according to Lowry, they’re not helping the hurricane hype machine.

β€œThe pervasiveness of AI has given the 15-day weather forecast an extra air of credibility,” Lowry said. But he added some of the latest AI weather models have blind spots.

Early studies have suggested these models can provide skillful forecasts of storm tracks but are not as reliable when it comes to intensity.

β€œHistorically, 80 percent of hurricanes form between early August and mid-October and 90 percent of our strongest Category 3, 4 and 5 hurricanes form during this busy 10-week stretch,” Lowry said. β€œThere’s no reason to think this year will be any different, so be ready regardless.”

In today's @washingtonpost.com, I address the hurricane fearmongering we've all but come to expect this time of year. Anyone sharing single-run forecasts 10 or 15 days out isn’t credible. At best, they’re misinformed. At worst, they’re gratuitously stoking unnecessary fear for profit or likes.
