finally getting around to filling my feed here with art, it's time

recently my friend's comics professor told her that it's acceptable to use gen AI for script-writing but not for art, since a machine can't generate meaningful artistic work. meanwhile, my sister's screenwriting professor said that they can use gen AI for concept art and visualization, but that it won't be able to generate a script that's any good. and at my job, it seems like each department says that AI can be useful in every field except the one that they know best. It's only ever the jobs we're unfamiliar with that we assume can be replaced with automation. The more attuned we are with certain processes, crafts, and occupations, the more we realize that gen AI will never be able to provide a suitable replacement. The case for its existence relies on our ignorance of the work and skill required to do everything we don't.

A costume ranking or any other kind of asoiaf fashion stream? Ever since that idea was brought up, it's been living rent free in my head.

I read just a little more than the screenshot shows, and the author actually names the elf king just a single paragraph later.
Now, don't get me wrong. The way he did it was still clumsy at best, but I think he had the right idea to approach it like this.

In fact, I think it's actually preferable, given this is the opening paragraph to a novel. Fantasy can be overwhelming with all its proper names, and introducing these things slowly can help ease people into the world you're creating.

This guy's writing is bad, yes, BUT one thing I've seen people criticize that I will disagree with is not giving the orc city or the elf king a proper name.
It's perfectly fine to describe things or people by their function first, and then let the names come out naturally through dialogue.

Even if it isn't for you, you can stop at any point. There is nothing and nobody forcing you to continue transitioning beyond a point you're comfortable with.
I procrastinated starting for a long time as well, and the only thing I regret now is not starting sooner 🙃
