This hits home for me. When faculty in my context push for stricter policies to address issues of "engagement," "classroom management," and "professionalism," it usually stems from a belief about what learning is "supposed" to look like. And it usually excludes many Neurodivergent & ESL students.

@liznorell.bsky.social I was actually invited back to that university last year to give a PD workshop, and it felt like such a victory to be on the campus, in a room that I felt I belonged in. Full circle moment!

Fostering Neurodivergent Learners’ Growth, with Will Hennessy – Teaching in Higher Ed Will Hennessy shares about fostering neurodivergent learners’ growth on episode 499 of the Teaching in Higher Ed podcast

After years of masking in neurotypical learning environments, I choose to centre vulnerability in my workshops.
But this might be the most vulnerable I've been ❀️
Thanks for your safety and generosity, @bonni208.bsky.social, I truly enjoyed our conversation!

As we prep our syllabus for another semester, and stress about "making it all fit" and "not forgetting anything," here's 1 more thing to include:
Space. Space for students to bring their whole selves. Space for learning. Space for reflection. Space for life to happen.

"You cannot learn if you don't feel safe in a classroom. Students do better if they feel safe, if they are in community, if they are seen. If the ultimate goal is learning, this is critical to learning."-Dr. Lorgia Garcia PeΓ±a #POD23

Adding time commitment approximations on videos/assignments really helps w/accessibility. #highered #edusky
