I accidently found this next track feature in our 200ish VW Jetta, and my mind was blown.

This morning the Government of Ontario announced significant service increases to the GO Transit Kitchener Line, starting November 23rd:

• Weekend service to Kitchener GO

• 30 minute weekend service between Union Station & Bramalea GO

• New infrastructure partnership with CN Rail

They just tear-gassed us. They tried to run us over in a van holding a peaceful protester. They shot us with pepper balls. They dragged another protester into the facility.

2051 ridership forecast • Full LRT and BRT have the highest average daily ridership. • Full LRT from Fairway to downtown Cambridge has slightly higher ridership than full BRT. • The transfer between bus and train at Fairway Station explains the ridership difference between LRT and BRT.

Economic benefits • Full LRT has the highest economic benefit: o Greatest travel time savings o Highest emissions and air quality savings o Greatest reduction to congestion • Partial LRT from Fairway to Pinebush, and from Preston to Downtown Cambridge have the lowest economic benefits.

Preliminary capital cost estimates • Capital cost includes construction, vehicles, property, design, project management, testing and commissioning. • The graph shows the capital cost of the different options in today's dollars, as well as the escalated cost in 2033 dollars. o Escalation refers to the higher cost of building in the future vs today due to price increases and inflation. • Full LRT and BRT would both require construction of six new major bridges, grade separations and/or elevated sections. • LRT cost is higher than BRT due to construction of the overhead wires, substations, tracks and vehicles.

The full LRT alignment has the highest ridership and economics benefits, but also the highest capital and operations costs.

State transportation departments work in a system that prioritizes project completion over project value for the community. When you combine that with a toolbox limited to expansion projects, state officials who genuinely want to help communities can end up hurting them instead.
