A series of blue and green bars on a horizontal chart showing that social trust is higher in wealthier countries and lower in middle-income countries
Across 25 countries we surveyed earlier this year, trust in others varies widely. But it tends to be higher in high-income countries than in middle-income ones.

I just constantly think about this result, showing what kinds of people young men interact with on social media versus in real life. The algorithm constantly feeds you unflattering comparison. How can you open your phone without worsening the vibe?

You can often find snippets of oral history to add to your research by searching newspaper archives for terms like nonagenarian, golden/diamond wedding, grand old lady/man. Older residents were often asked what their town/village was like when they were young. #oneplacewednesday

I've noticed this with regards to use of polling data - historians (popular or not) much more willing to cite a NYT article that includes a poll finding than to go to the original data file or topline. Given how poorly journalism has historically dealt with polling, that's a problem.

Revel in this 1977 advert for Benest's of Millbrook, presented by 'Major' Benest himself - imagine Bernard Matthews as a Winston Churchill stan and you're halfway there. Shown in ITV's Channel Islands region, Benest's became a local legend. And it's the best thing you'll see all day.
