I remember how Denise Biellmann was "bad" at figures, and everyone would get super mad because her long program was always so great but she never scored high enough to win. I think about her because now pretty much everyone does her "special" spin that no one else could do back then.

I spent years trying to teach at university and was horrible at it because I had no idea how to actually work at learning, so I could not explain to my students how to learn stuff. Now I have a job where my ability to get a shallow level understanding of anything very quickly is an asset.

This reminds me of the time my mom (a Psych professor) was sitting in a talk by a guy who kept mispronouncing "annals" as "anals". And she just BELLOWED from the back "it's aNNals". It stuck with me as one of the kindest things she ever did. Sometimes you just need to bellow it out.

A dark indigo scarf shaped in to a circle to show both ends. The scarf is made of garter stitch, but it has some diagonal cabled lines running across it to add texture.
Oh, how serendipitous, my latest finished object is this garter stitch scarf with some icord details. #ShowMeYourKnits. I love the colour - Figue by De Rerum Natura. Pattern is Askell.

I like those row counters, but I am doing these gloves on small dpns, and the counter is heavy and keeps falling off when I change needle. I am using lightbulb markers on the crosses instead.

That's a super smart hack! On a bigger chart I like to print them out and then use a mildliner to mark the completed row. Once you learn to "read" your knitting, it gets a bit easier. With cables, putting a lightbulb marker on the last completed twist row can help, too.

A small square of cream/white knitting. It has some short black lines in it which look a bit like writing, or striations on a glacier.

A long tapering end of a garter stitch scarf with icord edges. It is a dark indigo in a colourway called β figueβ and it does indeed have a very dark purple bloom
On my needles - so very close to the end of my Askell shawl, and it is on top of the nearly finished blanket. I am hoping there will be a new swatch by the end of the weekend. #ShowMeYourKnits

A black cat with a little white bit under her chin. She is fast asleep but sitting up and leaning on a wooden box. She has her feet stretched out in front of her on a knitted blanket, and you can see the toe feathers on her back feet. She is fluffy in an "I don't brush my hair" kind of way.
Please to enjoy this picture of Petal when she fell asleep but forgot to lie down

A cream-coloured sweater with a lot of flecks, streaks and dots of autumnal colours - navy, dark green and a couple of browns. It is very simply constructed, which allows the yarn to shine.
It was just cold enough again to put on this sweater I made myself last year as my New Year cast on, and I had forgotten how much I love it. So perfect for like 5 weeks of the year. Yarn is Sandnes garn Poppy. #ShowMeYourKnits
