And it won’t just be the plan for Coldsprings that will be completely changed. It will be very difficult to direct growth anywhere but near that station. All of our current plans will be impacted. The location of the station is likely the biggest planning decision for the City in the next 50 years.

If the station goes here there will be immense pressure to develop nearby. People will want to live near the station and low density won’t meet that demand. I wish we would at least try to put the station downtown to direct that growth into instead of adjacent to the city.

People riding bikes in a downtown Vancouver separated bike-lane

It’s really important that #Vancouver’s Downtown Business Association, who were originally against bike-lanes, are now among their most vigourous supporters, because of ACTUAL EVIDENCE that they’re better for downtown business than any street parking they replaced.

Safe bike-lanes mean business.

The Dodgers were supposedly a juggernaut of a team that the Jays had no chance against. Even though they ultimately won I’m not sure the team we saw in the World Series could really be described as a juggernaut.

Yamamoto wins the World Series for the Dodgers. Without him they don’t repeat as champs.

At the park in the @cityptbo.bsky.social Hard to imagine how we will ever shift people out of cars if they can’t use public washrooms for 6 months of the year. How about we start with winterizing the ones being built at Knights of Columbus Park and then start retrofitting the rest from there.

I keep telling decision makers in @cityptbo.bsky.social that protected bike lanes from Rotary trail in East City across Hunter St Bridge to the Bethune Bike street would accomplish exactly this.

New Study Shows How Paris Pedaled Its Way to a Cycling Revolution Cycling through central Paris meant weaving between buses and scootersβ€”a bold choice reserved for the fearless few.

β€œWhen streets became calmer & safer, more people felt comfortable trying a bike commute for the first time. Families began pedaling to the park…Local businesses saw new life…And cycling stopped feeling like a niche activityβ€”it became part of everyday Parisian life.”

People want to have kids and live downtown. Can they? - Western City Magazine For decades, planners focused on attracting young singles to dense urban cores. That dynamic has shifted, in part because ...

NEW: β€œSome still insist β€˜downtowns will never attract kids and shouldn’t try.’ Then they design downtown to virtually repel kids, and it becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy. Vancouver proves the opposite can be true...”

Peterborough’s first bicycle-priority street a hit with cyclists Bethune Street from McDonnel to Townsend has been rebuilt to prioritize cyclists, and it's getting rave reviews from bike riders.

To avoid the kind of flood that happened in 2004 (because of that buried creek) the city built an underground flood way and on top of it the built a pretty great bike street. It’s not well connected yet but the potential is there.

100m sprint race. Bolt is way out in front.

Imagine a 100m race where we’ve given cars an 80m head start after many decades of building almost ONLY for them. If we then set a transportation goal of β€œbalance” between many more choices in getting around, by definition we have to prioritize the new choices for a while, or they’ll never catch up.

Urbanist Brent Toderian Says Tall Buildings Are Not the Problem β€œSarasota has a huge disconnect between the types of developments being built and the actual needs of the community."

β€œGood planning isn’t just technical, it’s political and cultural. You have to challenge the idea that all density is bad or that all developers are evil. But you also have to hold developers to high standards.” β€” Canadian @brenttoderian.bsky.social discusses density in @sarasotamagazine.bsky.social.

The rink in St Catherine’s is connected to downtown by pedestrian bridges but I think its proximity to the highway is probably the main reason for its location. I would encourage #ptbo City Councillors to visit Guelph, Kingston and London whose rinks are much better integrated into their downtowns.

Florida is so good at cycling the puck. Every time the get into Edmonton’s zone they cycle, they win battles, they keep the puck in, they turn pucks over.Edmonton will have to get the puck out of their own end quick and clean if they are to have any chance at winning this game #nhl #stanleycupfinal

I don’t know what’s worse what’s for Florida, losing tonight’s game after being up 3-0 in the first period, giving Edmonton home ice advantage back or that the series is 2-2 and Edmonton hasn’t actually played a good game yet. #NHL #StanleyCupFinal #GoOilersGo

For sure and let’s also build more housing downtown too (people who live there will shop and play there) and maybe two-way George and Water as well to slow down traffic and make the pedestrian experience of those streets less like a freeway.
