the humble acetaminophen:
You are choosing to deliberately not hear me on that or are choosing not to care. Either way, I don't think this dialogue is productive, so I'm not going to participate anymore. Best of luck!
26.11.2025 02:46 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0I don't love the way you're talking to me. Again, my solution which you don't like is regulate Amazon. Also, it's just not a profession most people can make a living off of, so have a day job. I've already explained why I think having people tip at libraries is bad.
26.11.2025 02:46 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 2 ๐ 0Fine, but asking for tips at libraries is not "burning the system down." It's destroying one of the few places in our society where people can go for free and have dignity. That's worth protecting, sorry!
26.11.2025 02:37 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0But also, the reality is a lot of authors have to have day jobs. I do, and I still make time for my writing. That might be what the rest of my life looks like and I'm ok with that because I love writing.
26.11.2025 02:30 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Where did i say that? No. See above. I am one of them. Again, forcing Amazon to pay authors more fairly *would* go a long way. It's true they didn't used to exist, but now they're a giant in the industry, and if govt forced more fair treatment, authors would make more money.
26.11.2025 02:30 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0There is an important societal good in keeping the library a free space. It's one of its defining features.
26.11.2025 02:25 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Because tipping situations quickly turn into a norm everyone feels required to do. Because a kid will look up at their mom and say, we really loved our book, why aren't we giving money to the author? Bet. Not rolling in the dough, and I'm also a mom. And a writer.
26.11.2025 02:21 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0And this would alienate the poor from the libraries, even though it's an institution they should be able to rely on and move comfortably within, with no expectation of payment.
26.11.2025 01:54 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Trying to put issues like this on small consumers (like a library tipping matching thing would do) instead of holding companies like Amazon to account will just never work.
What would happen in this situation is tipping would start to feel like an expectation
It's gotten exponentially worse because of Amazon. The House Judiciary Committee found Amazon made up 50% of physical sales and 80% ebook. Any solution to this that doesn't address Amazon will be fruitless.

26.11.2025 00:26 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0If a local police department assists ICE in kidnapping people, are they eventually going to be held criminally liable too? Accountability must happen. We can't bend the knee to fascism and police who assist are as culpable a anyone else.

26.11.2025 00:19 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Authors have to put books on Amazon, but Amazon pays them thr smallest, most meager amount for that book...so small it's criminal. Amazon is what needs to be fixed.

26.11.2025 00:09 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Libraries currently pay authors way better than systems such as Amazon. The real issue is what Amazon did to the industry, and the govt needs to step in and regulate that shit.
