Global map showing surface air temperature trends for each November period from 1975 to 2024. Only land areas are shown. Red shading is shown for warmer temperature trends, and blue shading is shown for colder temperature trends. Data is from NOAA/NESDIS/NCEI NOAAGlobalTempv6.0.0. The temperature trend scale is from -0.5°C/decade to +0.5°C/decade. Most areas are warming, though there is some spatial variability.

A photo of a Brown Argus butterfly [Aricia agestis] sitting on some dry plant. Only the plant and the butterfly are in focus. The meadow in the blurred part of the photo (bokeh) is coloured in the warm tones of the morning sunshine. Reflections in the dew on the grass create bokeh circles in different sizes. The butterfly has opened its wings to warm up for the first flight of the day.

Precipitable water maps during the Jamaican hurricane of 1903
A damaging hurricane in a warmer world
How would a major hurricane that hit Jamaica in 1903 be different today, in a warmer world?
It would drop more rain. (At least)

After the earth dies, some 5 billion years from now, after it's burned to a crisp, or even swallowed by the Sun, there will be other worlds and stars and galaxies coming into being -- and they will know nothing of a place once called Earth.

Four global maps showing near-surface air temperature anomalies for the month of November in 1985-1994, 1995-2004, 2005-2014, and 2015-2024. Most all areas are observing long-term warming, which is largest over the Arctic region and Asia. Anomalies are calculated relative to 1951-1980 from ECMWF ERA5 reanalysis.
Welcome to November! Here's a look at how temperatures have changed around our planet over the last four decades...
