everybody gets to choose one climate solution they're allowed to hate as long as they 100% support policy and infrastructure to implement it. I loathe biking (because I take it personally when people try to kill me) but bring on the protected lanes and secure bike parking

Well said, Mo Salah.

Suleiman al-Obeid was shot dead by IDF forces whilst waiting for food aid in southern Gaza.

I posted to Twitter for what looks like the fifth time this year yesterday. Checked back today and the post has 39,000 likes, 3.2k retweets โ€” and 9 replies, and 4 quote tweets. I'm sorry folks those numbers ain't real. Bordering on a statistical impossibility. It's gotta be almost entirely fake.

Re the Kratsios editorial on the "Gold Standard" Executive Order
John P Holdren Formerly the Science Advisor to President Obama (Jan 2009 - Jan 2017) Currently Research Professor at Havard University's Kennedy School of Government
Reading the June 24 Editorial by Michael Kratsios on the โ€œGold Standardโ€ can only reinforce the impression, already well established by President Trumpโ€™s pathological prevarications, that George Orwellโ€™s 1984 has finally arrived, 41 years late.

How bizarre is it, after all, that an administration that has been cancelling crucial research projects and databases right and leftโ€•and whose top officials lie routinely about practically everythingโ€•has issued a demand for more reproducible and transparent science? And now we have the Presidentโ€™s under-qualified Science Advisor lecturing the readers of SCIENCE on what scientific integrity and transparency require.

As for the โ€œGold Standardโ€ Executive Order Kratsios praises, the poison pill is not hard to find (as many others have noted): the EO gives political appointees with no science background the power to declare a scientific result they donโ€™t like is the result of โ€œmisconductโ€ or some other alleged shortfall on the โ€œgold standardโ€.

Aside from that, the only proposals in this EO that are sensible call for measures that both Obama and Biden implementedโ€”and that Trump in his first term did not. And now the fox in the henhouse overseeing it all is Michael Kratsios? What a charade!

Five former National Weather Service directors have taken the unusual step of signing onto an open letter warning that cuts to the organization by the Trump administration may soon endanger lives.
"N.W.S. staff will have an impossible task to continue its current level of services," they write in the letter, dated Friday. "Our worst nightmare is that weather forecast offices will be so understaffed that there will be needless loss of life."
Hundreds of Weather Service employees, or about 10 percent of the agency's total staff, have been terminated or accepted buyout offers since President Trump began his second term, according to the letter.
