Mrs Deloozeโs group went to Coniston after lunch. We skimmed stones from the shore before canoeing to the island that was the inspiration for the Swallows and Amazons book and film. After exploring the island, we canoed back across the lake.

Mrs Ralphโs group had an amazing morning. It was all very โSwallows and Amazonsโ. We canoed out to an island, had a hot chocolate and went for an explore.

Rainbow coloured arrowheads on rainbow coloured ribbons.
I made these for friends last year, but seeing if anyone else would be interested for xmas? They're painted plaster of paris, modelled from real arrowheads.

Publication date of Swallows and Amazons is 1930 - so perhaps that is where it starts as it starts to become popular in the 40s? Bit of a Peter Pan effect i.e Wendy??

Hey British childrenโs lit pals! What is it about โSusanโ? Iโm British Gen X and I think it was maybe considered old fashioned by families naming their daughters in the late 60s?
But:

Susan the Queen in Narnia
Susan the sister of Colin in Garner

Sharing partly because Bardsey Obs is a beautiful place that does good work, but mainly because, thanks to Arthur Ransome, any mention of a great northern diver makes me smile, however tired and ohhelltonorrowismonday-ish I may be feeling.

The sad thing is that the name conjures up images of Arthur Ransome-style sailing boats, etc but is just a very unloved seaside town that the rest of Suffolk forgot.
It's the only place that we've never returned to in over 20 years of holidaying in the county.

Black and white photo showing a kettle on the sill of a very dirty window. Immediately outside the window is the very recognisable steelwork of the Forth Bridge.
My dad has turned up this photo from a visit "many years ago" to the Forth Bridge. I think it's taken from what he calls the howff, just below track level, used by the maintenance workers.
I guess when you're engaged in a proverbially endless task, you need a wee cup of tea once in a while.
